Should I let my 15 year old daughter post on DU?
And no, she is not a Yak. Not even a Yak-9.
She's fairly apolitical, except being rather liberal about a lot of social issues.
Mods, would it cause problems to have two DU accounts out of one email/internet server?

JUST KEEP HER AWAY FROM M.A.T.C.O.M.

Hey Hawk - lemme tell ya - GI BRATS are able to put up with much more than those "other people". She'll be fine. :)

sexual descriptions are a bit much for me.....

There's no rule against it, it's just that if one is used to 'disrupt,' all would be turned off... Several users have multiple accounts from the same computer.

13. Your call.
When you say she's "fairly apolitical" my reflex is to say let her post her handle on your account when she feels so inclined. My kid, who has recently left teenie status, still does that. The minute she gets so riled up she's ready to take on all comers, get her her OWN computer (if you know what's good for you ;-) ) and show her how to create her own account. Just an idea...

For that reason, not allowing her to post wouldn't accomplish keeping her away from "adult oriented" material.

23. She's using my account, under supervision
I'd say adult supervision, but I don't think I qualify.

And no, she thought that joke (about adult supervision) was unfunny.

And she says I should stop typing what she's saying.

And she says I shouldn't tease her.

But 15 is probably OK. Maybe a temporary sig line about her parentage would reassure you? You know, ID her as a friendly while she gets started.

:hi: !!!

for a screen name, make up a name that expresses a bit of something about yourself, your style, your interests--or a name you would've picked if you could've named yourself when you were a baby. We can't tell you your screen name--it's a kind of a vision quest.

You certainly know your way around here. The Lounge might be a bit too much, IMHO, for a 15 year old, but there are a lot of teens on here.

Heck, why not help her start a teen DU?

30. As long as you don't care if she sees a lot of sex stuff...
Explicit talk about masturbation, sexual positions, sex toys, penis length, shitloads of sexual innuendo, and an inordinate (if clever) amount of profanity.

We have several posters in that age group and they seem to do fine.

41. Sure
Through DU I've learned a lot, more than I can even write down. This includes protests, literature and new websites. It includes organisations promoting causes I am interested in, other aspects of politics, other leftist platforms on a better level (green, socialist, etc) and significantly helped with my debating skills.

I've been to DU meetings, and everyone I met were very nice, non-threatening people. Personally if I were you Hawker, I'd be more concerned if she was posting at FreiRepublikkk than the DU. (Because of the apparent seedy "attributes" of some of the freepers, according to their gallery)

44. HaHaHa
Looks like my little girl has learned a new trick to keep Daddy wrapped around her finger.
Alas, she wasn't really interested in reading and posting here, she wanted to get Daddy off the computer so she could visit the web sites she was interested in. When I gave her a chance to read for herself, she went to another website the moment I walked out of the room...
Fool me once, can't get fooled again.
(She'll do it to me again, I'm sure. Daddy is a sucker for his little girls.)

I think she reads more than she posts. She's very political but her interest in DU is very sporadic.

If your daughter goes to public school, she's heard and seen worse than is posted here, anyway.
