OMG, freepers destroy Sesame Street!
http://www.jumptheshark.com/s/sesamestreet.htm

Okay, it's a bait'n'switch topic, but I can't stand the bloody freepers!

Which comment one drives you the craziest?

(As for me, the show died after Mr Hooper did. :-( But they are right about one thing, the show is a dumbed-down waste of time these days...)

1. Freepers destroy
What they lack the wit to understand.

(And like all shows that target the under 5 set, I also find it dumbed down and boring. Then again, it's not written with 40 year olds in mind, is it?)

3. The show started when my daughter was a babe and now her babe
watches it. We all still love it. Did you know that when it started that Mississippi would not carry it because of the African Americans on it? I remember my father saying that he was so happy that he did not move us from Texas when we were little because of that type of prejudice. I love my Dad but he definitely was not the liberal in the family. That would have been my Mom. Anyway, unhappily, some things never change.

4. Originally jumped the shark
when everyone could see Snuffy.

Finally jumped it when Elmo came along. Yeah, great idea - teach kids to speak in broken English!

Sesame Street was handed its ass by Blues Clues. Which jumped the shark when Steve left. But now Steve's in The Flaming Lips. What?!

5. Are the Freepers still bitching about Bert & Ernie...

6. 4 words: They don't ~get it~
Not Sesame Street, ~it~. They are the ones whose eyes glaze over when you try to explain to them that the candy bar that costs 99 cents really costs 1.05 because of taxes.

They don't ~get it~.

Case in point from the linked site:

I've heard about the HIV positive Muppet headed to the South African version of Sesame Street. Swell - NOT! I'm just surprised that it wasn't Ernie and/or Bert! BTW, I've already witnessed a program (South Park) which a teacher (the pedophiliac Mr. Garrison) teaches 5-year-old kids (and 3-year-old Ike) how to have sex, teaching them all the sexual positions. I mean, geez Louise, you may as well have the Mr. Garrison (and Mr. Hat) Muppets brought over from "South Park" to teach the prime Sesame Street audience how to have sex. Can you say "doggie position," children?

7. "Changed the theme song?"
The theme song changed something like 5 times during the show's run, didn't it? New arrangement, new recording, etc.

It changed shortly after the show started! I still remember the original bridge in the theme:

It's a magic carpet ride.
Every door will open wide
To happy people like you!
Happy people like...what a beautiful...
Sunny day....
etc.

Plus there were special themes whenever they went on the road...to visit Luis' family in New Mexico, to visit Hawaii, etc.

I'd have to say Elmo is definite shark bait, however. Some of the others were way too early in the process, like the double recasting of Gordon, or changing Oscar's fur color (they changed the whole muppet after the first year or two), etc. Besides, Elmo was when they lost the subtlety that let parents watch the show with their kids and discuss things.
