Musical memory thread!
Okay, I jsut heard "Get off my cloud" by the Rolling Stones. That is the tune that got me into the band. I first heard it when I was 13 and on a sailtraining course for two weeks on a 110 schooner. The cook, Grant, one of those cool 30-somethingish guys that relates well to teenagers and manages to teach them a bit about life in the process brought a stereo on deck.

Get off my cloud came on and he cranked it up and was dancing around in the coolest way with a cup of tea...moving the cup toward and away from himself in the motion of dance. The sun was shining, the waves were at least 20 foot rollers, and I was in the rigging checking out the view and listening to the stones...becoming semi-awake in life.

Ah, the rolling sea and the rolling stones....what a mix. TO this day I love dancing to that tune and have a CD with it ready to go on my Dad's sailboat.

What's yours?

1. I'm Not In Love, by 10CC
always takes me back to a sultry July night in, oh about 1974. It's as evocative 30 years later as it was then. I'll say no more or I'll get locked.

3. I have a few:
Yesterday (Beatles.) I remember singing it with my mom while we climbed 2 flights of stairs to our apartment. I was 5 or 6.

And some favorite songs from my mother's radio, in the early 60s, same age range:

"The Birds and the Bees" (Newman)

"Kansas City" (Fats Domino)

"Dang Me" (Roger Miller)

The number one favorite? "King of the Road," also Roger Miller.

All encoded in my brain before the age of 7; I can still sing them.
