Which state has the best fried chicken?
Locally produced of course...

Now I know I shall catch holy flame hell for this, but OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA has the BEST FRIED CHICKEN!!!!

Go to downtown Oakland, Telegraph Ave and look for the dives. They will have the best.

Trust me, it's worth the trip!

2. Definitely Kentucky
You won't find a rural cook that doesn't know how not to fry chicken.

6. About food in California
It sucks! I noticed this is your second thread to involved food in CA. I don't mean to be a jerk, but really, food from CA sucks.

From a health standpoint there are many good alternatives, especially for vegetarians, as compared to other states. There are also many unique foods you don't commonly find elsewhere. But in terms of traditional food, no way. CA pizza doesn't hold a candle to Chicago style. And you really think fried chicken is better in Oakland than say Kentucky, Tennessee or Alabama? Please! CA is a great state with a lot to offer, but I think you're giving CA a little too much credit in the food department.

7. "CA pizza doesn't hold a candle to Chicago style"
This is because we are talking two separate beasts. Chicago Pizza cannot be compared to NY/NJ pizza. Apples and oranges. Same with Cali Pizza. Cali pizza uses non-standard ingredients, like peanut sauce, or carbonara sauce. Like everything in Cali, pizza refuses to follow the rules.

As for Chicken, ever been to Oakland? If so, ever to go Wilmas? Soul Bros? I've had Southern Style Chicken in the south, and I've had this stuff - trust me, it's good.

11. they "cannot be compared" because
if you did compare California style to Chicago style pizza the obvious result would be that Chicago sytle pizza is better. Saying one isn't better than the other because they are two different kinds of things sounds like the kind of argument a flaky California liberal would make. hehe ;)
Sorry, my Chicago-style attitude is coming out today, but I mean it in a good natured way.

8. Alabama fried chicken is extra greasy
There's a soul food restaurant in the town where I work, and now that I think about it, every item on the menu is extra greasy - even the veggies.

Check out the marks it gets from Roadfood:

Take it from me, it is fan-frigging-tastic. If you're ever in the area this place is a must.

Edit: While you're in town, hit Rocky's Burger Bus too:

10. Texas - Church's Fried Chicken
Started right here in San Antonio. Greasy and every order is served with a jalepeno. To this day, I can't eat fried chicken without jalapenos.
