Classical mixed-CD suggestions...
I am extremely uneducated in the Classical arts, however love the music dearly. I am attempting to make a mixed-CD for an upcoming road trip, however I know the names of very few of these compositions. Perhaps a few people could step forward and offer me a few suggestions apiece. THANKS in advance!

The song is a remix from one of Mozart's originals...awesome stuff...crank up the speakers LOUD when you play it.

3. ANY Mahler with Georg Solti conducting.
I'm partial to the second, personally. The scherzo (fifth movement).

8. You're Right! Nothing more beautiful in all of music...
I also LOVE Mahler's 4th and 1st symphonies. Well, I love them all, but some of them just go on and on and on....

4. Is there a classical radio station in your area?
If so, listen to it and write down the names of the pieces you like.

Otherwise, borrow a few CDs from friends who are into classical music and see what you like.

It's such a vast repertoire that I wouldn't know where to start, and because it's so vast, people might like one piece but not some other equally famous piece. It's sort of like rock or any other genre in that way.

BTW, it's Pachelbel's Canon. A canon is a piece in which one instrument or voice starts a theme and the others take it up later, sort of like a round, only much more elaborate.

6. I'd suggest you go with a few commercially available

compilations. I've listed a few from the Deutsche Grammophon label as they're great quality recordings with top-rank artists at very reasonable prices. In addition, they're readily available at most Tower stores and online as well:

1. Classics in America DG469 277-2 (2 CDs)
Includes Gershwin, Rhapsody in Blue (w Bernstein on piano & conducting), An American in Paris; Sousa, Stars & Stripes; Bernstein, Dances from WSS; Barber, Adagio for Strings; Copland, Appalachian Spring; plus some Ives & Joplin. Most of the recordings feature Bernstein as conductor...he can hardly be bettered in Americana. Sells for under $20.

2. Karajan conducts Famous Overtures, Preludes & Intermezzi DG 474 275-2 (2CD)
Mozart, Beethoven, Verdi, Wagner, Mendelssohn, Strauss, Offenbach, Rossini. There are a TON of hits here, all played extremely well - Magic Flute, Der Freischutz, Parsifal, William Tell, Light Cavalry, etc. The recordings have also been remastered and sound great. Under $20.

3. Karajan conducts Grieg and Sibelius DG 474 269-2 (2CD)
Grieg, Peer Gynt Suites 1 & 2, Holberg Suite & the rarely heard Sigurd Jorsalfar. Sibelius, Finlandia, Valse triste, The Swan of Tuonela, Pelleas & Melisande and Tapiola. GREAT music...very Scandinavian in character. A personal fav. Under $20.

There's a start for ya!

7. Can you name a few that you like?
I can give a better recommendation after knowing that much. What sort of tones interest you?
