Can someone explain to me why the Indy 500 winner drinks milk at the end?

7. Milk
In the early years of the 500, one of the winners asked for a glass of milk after he won the race. The Dairy Council recognized a marketing coup when they saw one, and has offered a glass of milk to every winner since. It has become a matter of tradition, and most winners look forward to it as part of the tradition. Only one winner that I know of has ever turned it down, and that was a Brazilian who owned an orange grove. The locals were pretty upset.

5. The tradition was started years ago
when the winner wanted to drink buttermilk. So the winner started following in that guy's footsteps, and since most people can't stand buttermilk, they changed it to milk.

Milk became the drink of champions after Louis Meyer, the winner of the 1936 Indianapolis 500, was photographed gulping down a bottle of buttermilk, his favorite drink. Apparently, his mom had recommended the drink, claiming it would refresh him.

The photo found its way to the desk of an executive at the Milk Foundation who, seeing a rare promo opportunity....
