Movies that feature the drowning of New York City
I watched The Day After Tomorrow earlier, and I thought they did a pretty good job, SFX-wise (the storyline is another story, pun intended). I can recall several flicks which feature the same flood scenario-- am I missing any?

-The greatest one of all never shows it happening, only the long-term consequences. It all boils down to the final scene of the movie-- the original Planet Of The Apes.

-Another great SF classic has a good after-the-deed scene. It's When Worlds Collide.

-The Abyss (Director's Cut) shows the possibility of it, but stops short of letting it happen.

-A.I. shows the aftermath.

Others?

1. The thing is, New York is real close to getting flooded.
The conditions on La Palma Island near the African shore are prime for a shelf collapse. La Palma will rumble with seismic activity, announcing yet another eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the southern half of the island. But this time, the unstable western flank of the volcano doesn't hold. A huge chunk of the island simply breaks off and drops into the Atlantic Ocean. PLUNGE! 500 billion tons of rock and debris hit the ocean, and a massive wall of water towers up and starts sloshing westwards across the Atlantic, at the astonishing speed of over 700 kilometers per hour. Destination: US East Coast.

2. The Abyss is the West Coast
Possibly the Outer Banks of NC, but it was filmed in the San Diego area (ILM SFX IIRC).

Deep Impact shows NYC being flooded by a comet-impact tsunami. Such a wave would be monumental -- I think they lacked the budget to properly do a 10,000 foot high wave. The SFX waves in NYC seemed to be about 300 feet high, at the most.

Waterworld maybe? There's an interesting scene where The Mariner (Kevin Costner) swims down to the sunken city to retrieve some stuff for Jeanette Tripplehorn's character.

When Worlds Collide had some flooding scenes when "Bela" had a near-collision with the Earth. I don't recall that NYC was specified.

I'm waiting until Tuesday or Wednesday to see The Day After Tomorrow. And it ought to be out on DVD right as the weather turns cold again. :)
