4. I wonder if there's something going on more than finances

I am somewhere within the Autistic Spectrum (probably Aspergers) and this occasionally has wierd side effects. One of them is obsessions. One of those is money - borne out in stinginess.

Ank finally got pissed off about:

broken and cracked dishes, bowls, plates
stained, ripped and no-longer-absorbent towels
a cupboard full of mis-matched glasses, no two alike
a closet full of coffee cups, no two alike, some cracked
stained, mismatched placemats
old, torn and stained cushions on the couch
goo on the kitchen table

So he went out and bought matching, tasteful and inexpensive:

towels, washcloths, hand towels
cups, plates, bowls
glasses
placemats
cushions

So I blew a temper tantrum over what I considered a waste of money. I don't have a problem with mis-matched stuff.

Over the last few months we've also gotten:

new bedding (replaced .... :scared:)
new bedroom curtains (replaced basically a bedsheet)
new couch/futon (replaced ripped, torn, bulky, uncomfortable couch)
new chair for him (ergonomic for his bad back)

Do you see the pattern?

He's trying to turn our apartment from a hovel into a home.

My problem - I like hovels.
