My maternal grandfather came from Latvia while it was still under Czarist Russia.

By the time all the refugees arrived after WWII, he was the only Latvian-speaking attorney in the Twin Cities, so he was very prominent in the community. He was also the only Latvian-speaking insurance agent, so he had a very profitable sideline.

Not bad for a lad from Vecpiebalga, Latvia.

2. 'Fraid not
Ukraine is south of Russia, bordering on the Black Sea. It isn't anywhere near the Baltic.

The Baltic has Finland and Sweden on the north side, Poland on the south side, and Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania on the east side.
