In honor of today's M*A*S*H marathon. (You should all know I almost wrote

1. BJ was pleasant enough, but ...

...not really all that funny. And WAAAYYYY too tame compared to Trapper John.

2. Trapper John.
"B.J. Hunnicut" sounds too much like a porn star's name.

Can I change my answer?

4. I agree.

Trapper and Hawkeye were more equally talented.

No, you can't change your answer, but you could
probably change your name to B.J. Hunnicut if you
really want to. :P

5. So could you.
I mean, B.J. could also work for a woman's name.

Mara Jean is just my "internet name." ;-)

3. The best thing about B.J. Hunnicutt
is that he provided a local DJ in my town with the best DJ name ever: DJ Hunnicutt, natch.

6. B.J.
He provided a better contrast to Hawkeye. He was a straight man, whereas Trapper was just a less funny copy of Hawkeye.

10. Good reasoning
I agree 100%

and, FYI

though it has absolutely nothing to do with the show or their acting abilities, Mike Farrell is a stand up guy who has lent his name and abilities to several progressive causes . . .

whereas Wayne Rogers is a Conservative scumbag.

13. Good Point... Trapper was a great sidekick, but BJ the better "balance"
I liked them both though...

(I just hope for once we can discuss MASH the tv show without the movie purists inevitable comments re: how superior the movie to the tv show-- I liked them both, but they were VERY different)

12. BJ wasn't funny
And Mike Farrell always looked like he was stretching when he attempted a joke.

Sure, I'd rather talk politics with him. But he (and others) were part of the dramady-ization of M*A*S*H, a bad thing.

14. What do you mean by the ...

..."dramadyization"??

I guess the plots did get a little more serious in tone over time, now that you mention it.

16. There were times when the show was a little....

...sanctimonious, though, I think. I always liked the "message", don't get me wrong, but it was supposed to be a situation comedy fer cryin out loud.

17. What I mean is that it became predictable
You knew whate everyone was going to do based on her or his politics, and on Alan Alda's belief in the redemptive qualities of liberalism (even Charles would come around now and then, and Hot Lips turned to Margaret once she got a taste of decent politics--and also that good ol' Hawkeye lovin').

Heck, I'm a Enlightened Sensitive Male myself, but I found later M*A*S*H episodes a little too formualaic, too well-tooled to flatter ME for being enlightened and sensitive.

21. ...and a little unfunny..

..a few of the episodes were just not enjoyable to me.

Don't get me wrong, I love the show, and even the flattest of the shows were pretty good. Oh well, enough said.
