I just had a republican memorial day
sitting at dinner at the inlaws with their friends - I kept silent, just not worth it.

lines of argument (although they were all agreeing with each other in true fox news style "discussions") included

- Well I know thats true because Sean Hannity said....

- They are teaching the gay marriage is ok at the schools now. Well it is ok - for Satan!

- You have to let kids know these things (gay marriage, the internet, communism(communism defined by rush limbaugh)) are wrong as a matter of safety. I mean let them make choices but not if they are endangering themselves by doing these things and getting AIDS.

I shit you not all of these things were said today. Mostly I tried not to laugh out loud but then I realized they all vote and I (the non citizen) don't.

I could have tried to argue or do more than the subtle course alterations (I would lead them down a path agreeing with me and then open the chasm underneath that they were now on the liberal side of the fence - my wife kept kicking me under the table...what? its not like they are getting it at all) but how do you argue with someone for whom the word of sean hannity is a discussion ending, trump all, absolute truth?

ugh. mourn for me.

2. i feel your pain...at my solidly democratic family's picnic
Edited on Mon May-31-04 05:40 PM by noiretblu
on saturday, my great aunt opined that gay marriage was "wrong" after a cousin mentioned her priest and his partner had gotten married.
after some discussion, she said as long as "they" didn't invite her to the wedding, she didn't care if "they" got married.
so, she will not be invited to my wedding :hi:
my great aunt is 80, but my cousin (actually my mom's first cousin) is 75...so it's not JUST an age thing

7. I get challenged by GOP family at every holiday
they call me a 'big liberal' and a socialist. Then they close their ears to any facts I may have as they rant and rant.

8. My family got together last night to remember my
late brother who died two years ago May 30 (may he rest in peace). His wife was lamenting the fact that their son, after 17 years of being raised a pug, has become a Democrat. I was at the other end of the table and I said, "I'm proud of him! He has escaped 17 years of parental propaganda." I also told my nephew that if he ever needed encouragement to e mail me. I hope he does.

9. You poor thing. You must really love your spouse to endure that.
Get home and  and make it go away.
