GODDAMNIT I NEED A JOB! I WANT A JOB! I MUST HAVE A JOB SOON!
And if I don't, I'm gonna drive my car off of a $%$%$%#$%#$%#$%#$ cliff!

Damnit, is that too damn much to ask? I'm not asking for the moon and the starts, I'm asking for a J-O-B! I HATE job searches to begin with, and it's been almost two months with this one. Unemployment is less than half of my salary, but that doesn't mean I have half the bills, and I've got the debt collectrolls on my ass like flies and I'm getting behind on bills I don't want to get behind on, never mind having very little savings left.

I'm trying to start a legal research/paralegal services business with the boss who had to lay me off because he no longer had the money to pay me, but that's very slow going, as most new businesses are, I'm a single parent and I need a steady income NOW!!!!! I send out a gazillion resumes for positions I'm more than qualified for, go on interview after interview after interview, where I think I've done well only to find out I didn't get the $%$%#$%#$^ job!

I'm starting to look everywhere in the country now, not just Northeast Ohio, and I just can't take much more of this, no job, no money, relentless bills and expenses I don't have the money for, being almost forty years old and having little to show for it, etc., etc. I have a B.A. in history and sociology, a paralegal certificate, years of experience, writing talent and experience, and I still don't have a damn J-O-B! Here's my resume, with my name and contact info and employer names removed for obvious reasons, now will somebody PLEASE tell me why I don't have a damn job yet? And I can also do paralegal work from home for almost anywhere in the country, which is what the business I'm trying to start is all about! I NEED A JOB NOW!!!!!!

I've been looking at CT on internet sites, but they probably don't list everything that's available. And something in Hartford would be especially nice!

I could, if you are willing to relocate, get you a job tomorrow. It won't be in you field, and may not pay as much as you're used to,but it will be in a place that has the cheapest living expenses in the country.

One must be open to change.

12. LH - if DC/northern VA area is of interest,

then I will do what I can to help. Today's Washington Post seems to have several postions that you would be qualified for, and the job situation here seems fairly good.

Two caveats, however. A LOT of positions are government/military related, and the cost of living here is high.

I'll follow up with you if you'd like.

I'm sure that area would have a lot of paralegal and/or legal-related openings. I could email my full resume if you want, and that goes for anyone else here as well.

18. I'll get to work on it

Let me scan the Post again, and go to a few DC/noVA related job boards. I'll send off the info to you via PM when it's done. Might not be until tomorrow evening though - hope that's OK.

BTW, if you ever need a little "decompressing" - we've got solitude, 61 acres, and a spare room. Sometimes time away from family, kids, etc. does wonders.

Dan and Kate the dogs are quite friendly, too. :)

16. Sel the car
most people have cars they can't afford with ridiculous payments...sell it immediately and buy an ugly used car with a good engine for around $3k. Get a small loan from the bank if necessary to pay for it...better to owe 3k than 20k. Next, look around and sell of the crap in your house that you never use...sell it on Ebay. Doing these two things should give you much needed breathing room. In the meantime, I recommend calling some temp companies and getting a clerical/data entry type position tomorrow morning for around $9.00-$10 an hour. It won't be ideal, but you can almost ALWAYS find a place with flexible hours that will pay the bills while you wait for your dream job to roll in. It won't be fun, but this is what it is going to take. Good luck.

19. Selling the car is not an option, since
I just got it in November for $9,000 from a national chain that gives car loans to people with not-so-great credit and I have a contract I must fulfill for the next 3 1/2 years. I have no equity in it yet, anyway. I'm already registered with every staffing agency in the area, with no luck getting anything.

Considering my last job was only $12.50/hr. (it was only a few miles from home, so that saved a lot of money in gas and commuting expenses), a $9 or $10/hr. job wouldn't be too bad for a temporary situation, but I've been unable to find that around here, even through the agencies. My theory is that they think I'm "overqualified", even though I've told them I'd have no problem with jobs like that for awhile.

I could get you a job in New Mexico tomorrow. but, you have to want to go to a place like this.

Email your resume to :

mhr@sr66.com

starting salary: at least 26k, probably more, and they will assist with moving expenses. You can rent a three bedroom house here for $300.

I'm leaving this particular job tomorrow.

I am staying in this area. I have read your posts for quite some time. If you truly want a change, then I am offering an option.

29. still..
sell it for $8000, then take out a $4000 loan at the credit union. Pay off the remaining $1k you owe, and find a 3k car. Your payment will be cut in half. Just a suggestion.

23. Me too!
Hi, Liberalhistorian! I was wondering if you'd found anything yet. I've been keeping my eye on paralegal postings here from Workopolis (Toronto area) for you, if you'd like me to start forwarding them to you. You can send me your e-mail, or I can paste them into PMs for you if you'd like.

I also still need a job, a real, full-time job! I've been off full-time work since October, and my benefits are over in like SIX WEEKS and I'm starting to get DESPERATE! I'm looking for technical writing/editing work, although I'm fairly flexible.

Help us out!!

33. Temping
Have you tried temping? I was a paralegal for many years and eventually got laid-off. I hated paralegaling, but I temped for the summer while I decided what I wanted to do next. It was pretty lucrative. Of course, I live in the Philadelphia suburbs, which may have a better job picture for paralegals than where you are.

Is it possible for you to include the names of where you've worked on your resume? The legal profession LOVES name-dropping. Quite by happenstance, I have a blue chip law firm in my history and EVERYBODY wanted to interview me when I sent out resumes.
