4. I love Sweetness and Jim Brown ....
but i haver to vote for Sanders. The mans talent, skill level, durability, smarts on the field etc were the most dangerous package ever on a football field. If I could vote for a tie I would vote Sanders, Brown, Payton and the all others a distant 4th.

11. I agree with you
But, he does hold the current rushing record, so I had to include him.

15. An extremely boneheaded trade by my Vikes
gave Dallas all the room they needed to give Smith an incredible line. You take that way from, remove all the holes and that speed and lack of great moves made him dead meat on the field. Then the ()*^*% Cowgirls got Herschal back at the end of his career to spell Smith anyway. Geeez.

Thank you for *not* listing Franco Harris in here. He could run, but he wouldn't block. Feh.

13. Well, I'm a Lions fan (it's true -- I AM), so I gotta go with
Dexter Bussey (hey, Dexter needs love too).
Naw, I voted for Sanders (a TOUGH interview, BTW), remember Billy Sims and, like every other NFL fan, thought the world of Walter Payton (even when he killed us -- which was always).
John
Too young to really remember Jim Brown.

17. Barry Sanders
Edited on Fri Aug-22-03 01:58 PM by VermontDem2004
If he didn't retire so early he would of smoked Walter Payton's record. The last year he played in, he had 1,400+ yards. To bad, Terrell Davis could of been on that list if he never got injured.

18. Sanders - most elusive running back ever
If the Lions had gotten an offensive line for him (I mean a REAL o-line then he would have the rushing record sewn up by the time of his premature retirement). Imagine him running behind the same line that Emmit had in his glory days.

19. Exactly
Walter played for 13 years and got 16,726 yards. Barry Sanders played 10 years and got 15,269 yards. Barry was still healthy and still on the top of his game, he could of broke the record if he stayed for 1 more year. Barry Sanders really never had a great O-line but managed to get 15,000+ yards 4 times. One year he had 6 yards per carry, which is impressive. No one could dodge tackles like Barry could.

misguided that fateful draft day, and had picked Barry instead of Mandarich? Sigh. Lombardi would have come home a lot sooner. Double sigh. Oh well.
