Feces Occurs - how's about a little karma?
yesterday afternoon we had our furnace checked out and cleaned - to get it ready for winter

during the cleaning process, the repair guy checked the chimney and we have a major problem...

the chimney is blocked causing "blowback" from the furnace and he had to shut down the furnace. it could be something simple to "unblock" or it could mean a humongus major repair (i.e new lining for the chimney) and it could cost giga-bucks

fortunately, as it's still summer we don't need the heat... unfortunately we get our hot water from the furnace

we got hold of a chimney guy, and he's coming around 8:00 am this morning... at the very least we are hoping that he is able to "unblock" the chimney enough so we can get the furnace back on line for hot water..

ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHH! we don't need this crap happening!

2. we've used the chimney guy before
and know him, so we trust him...

we are just worried about how much all of this is going to cost and where we will get the money if we need major repairs...

we may end up having to get a bank loan if the chimney needs major repairs, and will stretch our already tight budget even tighter

we are very worried and :scared:

3. Don't worry just yet.....
The chimney guy is one you trust.....I am always leary of someone finding major problems like that when things were okay prior. They may indeed be justified but.... the economy sucks for everyone, including furnace companies.

4. it's just that we don't need this expense right now
we had a big old dead pine tree removed last week to the tune of $600, and we also need water pipes replaced (estimates on this range from $1,000-$2,000)

so a chimney problem at this time is NOT what we needed...

am I in a panic, is my stomach tied up into a knot - yep

will let you know what happens - thanks for your support

keeping my fingers crossed.....

5. I understand all of this and how you feel
At 67 I said I am done with it and an offer came in I could not pass. If I built a mother-in-apt I could live free the rest of my life. I just needed to pay my cost. I sold my home and did it. Best of all worlds. I was worn out with all those repairs.

initial diagnosis is that a rock from our stone chimney fell into the flue...

keeping fingers crossed that this is the only problem...

8. good news-bad news (and a little begging)
Good news is that it was only a "rock" lodged in there and it has been removed, the furnace guy will be coming later today to reconnect everything so we can have hot water

Bad news is that in order to get the rock out, 3 courses of stone had to be removed, the remaining chimney needs to be reconstructed and since this is the original chimney to the house (built in 1928) it didn't have a liner - so we also need to have a liner put in...
Rough estimated cost is around $1,500.00 (ouch).

The chimney guy will be back in about 3 weeks to do the work and it will only take a day...

Thanks to all for your support...

how about buying a t-shirt or some artsy stuff to help me pay for the new chimney????
