Try about 24-25 years old...let's see that song came out when I was in junior high.

1980ish

5. If I recall correctly, it was 1978
The better song on tha album was "Good Girls Don't (but I do)" with the beautiful line "till she's sitting on your face."

6. I rfecall it all too well from that year
It was in HEAVY rotation on my local radio....I grew to detest it. Took 20 years for me to find it bearable (nay, catchy...nay, pretty pleasing) again.

7. 25-year-old song ...
Big hit on the radio in the summer of 1979 – between my junior and senior years of high school.

9. My most detested song. Ever.
Edited on Tue Jun-15-04 07:00 AM by supernova
There isn't another song out there that makes me change the station faster. :P

edit: In fact, MS is the standard by which I measure the badness of all other bad songs. :P

14. My sentiments egg-zackly. Well, almost...
"Let the Eagle Soar" beats it out by a hair. It's a close one, though...

:puke:

13. 2004 minus 1979 = 25 years
And in that time, Dougie Fieger's big brother Geoffrey has gotten more press than he has, mainly because of his client, Jack Kevorkian, MD (ret).

They were a great band, the pinnacle of Power Pop.

The Knack, the Records, Greg Kihn, Rachel Sweet, the Rubinoos ... them guys was THE BEST!

Eyes still starry after all these years

16. "They don't write 'em like that anymore"
I'm a huge power-pop fan myself.

I also really love some of the Canadian power punk/pop stuff from that era like the Diodes (Toronto) and the Pointed Sticks (Vancouver).

17. A lot of US Power Pop was *nearly* Canadian
The Knack (Michigan), the Rubinoos (New York state), Too Much Joy (NY State), several bands (names un-remembered) in W. Massachussetts ... a long time ago, I read an article in one of the music magazines about it.

I like the Diodes, but never heard the Pointed Sticks. I will have to look around for them ... I probably have at least one song on one of my Power Pop compilations.

A lot of what's being called "Twee" music is Power Pop. Bubblegum music introduced a lot of Power Pop, too, especially Harper's Bizarre ("Malibu U", "I Love You, Alice B. Toklas" and "The 59th Street Bridge Song").

In a world of mature, world-weary singer-songwriters, enthusiasm and immaturity will always find an audience, especially among the mature and world-weary.

World-weary. Immature. And ready to RAWK!

18. Pointed Sticks
"The Real Thing" was a minor regional hit - good stuff if you can find their album. It may have been released on CD lately, I can't recall.

I was on a TV show with Doug Fieger from the Knack back in August - he's a great guy. :D
