Enough with the joke subjects, the puns, the silly riffing of another post
Its not funny, its dumb and annoying. If all you are going to do is pun on another subject line, just post it as a reply to that subject. I can't say this enough, its dumb, though I suppose its gratifying for those who post for the sake of posting, the only message being "I am here, I am here, look at me."

I am surprised there isn't a rule against it. It pushes genuine posts back to the back pages, and all we have are pages of pons on boys and goys and toys and the ever popular "I will show my wit by reversing the subject and verb in someone else's subject." Gee, thats impressive.

I am trying to find a subject I just read 5 minutes ago on page 1, and I haven't found it yet on page 3, its annoying, wading through all; this fluff.

Now go ahaead and flame, silly people.

1. You could just hide all the lounge threads
That would get rid of all that stuff

6. Or...gasp...avoid the Lounge
People blow off steam in different ways...this place is a depressurization zone, at times. Live and let live...deal with it one way or another.

13. I like copycat and joke topics... heck, half the time they're
better than the original topic anyway. Sometimes I just get a laugh out of the subject line, but sometimes they're worth a response on their own merit.

These boards move really fast. If anyone bothered to count the copycat threads in the current topics, I bet the percentage would be so low that it's negilible anyway. Considering how many people participate, I'd say most people here like the posts.

14. Nurse : oh no doctor is it too late ?
We'll do all we can nurse,
pass em the gas and grab hold of their coccyx,
it looks like a blown funny bone,
just a few quick jerks and it should be coming right into place.

Taking things way too seriously is reserved for General Discussion.

Perhaps the thread you are looking for is in there.

17. I love jokes; I come here for amusement, but this amounts to spam.
No, really, I am not a stick in the mud. I love the lounge. I love the jokes. (by the way, just because something is fun doesn't make it right. When W was putting firecrackers up frog's asses I am sure he thought it was great fun and would have considered anyone telling him to stop a killjoy).

The thing is, a joking wordplay on the subject line of a thread is not an appropriate subject for a new thread, it should be a reply to that thread.

I have been specifically admonished here that posting multiple new threads with the same topic is considered spamming. Of course, I was doing it maliciously and was rightly admonished. But the thing is, the effect is the same even if its done in a spirit of innocent fun, you wind up with dozens of threads that really aren't threads, they have no replies, because they were never serious in the first place, and the real threads that have some content, whether that content be jokes, movie or music reviews, love odes to one's cat, whatever, get lost in the mix. Too many really good threads get pushed to the back pages and lost amid a cloud of matcom puns (its like using dummy warheads to defeat an ABM, the missile can't tell which is the real warhead and which the fake).

Go on, admit it, the only reason to do it is vanity, to force everyone to read your dumb pun. If you post it where it belongs, as a reply the the subject you are punning off of, then only those interested enough to open the thread will read it. But thats not enough exposure, so you all create a new thread for the sole purpose of making everyone read the subject. I am sorry, but I think thats a misuse of the functions of this board, and its getting re-god-damn-diculous lately.

So there.

Hardly. Ignore the threads. Ignore the poster. The options are there. I've used the ignore thread plenty of times.

25. Well, it's a damn good thing...
that the administrators and moderators here have more of a sense of fun than you do.

If you don't see the substantive difference between posting multiple threads on the same topic over in one of the more serious forums and posting pun topics in the Lounge then you've got issues.

Get over yourself. If you don't like the way the Lounge works no one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to stay. We've always been like this and it ain't gonna change just because someone comes in here to yell at us about it from time to time.

And if you can't find a thread...use the freakin' search function. You've got a star by your name so you have no excuse.

26. You never know the threads exist when they get pushed back so fast
thats all. Its like using the lounge as a chat room, when the communication takes place through thread subjects, rather than inside the threads. You have to monitor constantly in order to see what threads are real and which are jokes.

I just feel sorry for all the brilliant threads which disappear, "full many a flower was born to blooom unseen" or whatever Grey said.

Ignore is not a solution to this problem, unless you are just constantly reading the lounge and hit ignore all the time.

Again, its like the lounge is a chatroom instead of a bulletin board and you have to be monitoring it constantly so as not to miss the good remarks, because of all the chaff.

I have a few minutes a few times a day to see of there's anything interesting, and all I see are multiple dumb puns. Bah.
