Hummingbird advice
OK, so, my house is on the market and I wasn't going to put out any food this summer for the hummingbirds (we have three regulars) b/c I didn't want them to become dependent on us for food, esp. if we move midway during the season they live here. But, I'm a weakhearted weenie, and started putting their sugar water treats out for them on Sunday. Now there are three hummingbirds dive-bombing each other over the feeder, it's like there are three Jedi knights out there zooming around. I love the little guys. And am now absolutely wracked with guilt -- no sale yet on the house, of course, just anticipating leaving them.

Anyone here know anything about their feeding habits? Am I dooming them to starvation if the sugar water stops, if we move and take their nectar source with us?

1. Dive-bombing?
They're playing.

If there are two males and one female -- they're showing off.

Make sure to tell the new owners about the hummingbirds. Most people love hummingbirds, and they're so easy to keep happy.

If the food stops -- they'll just go somewhere else.

3. re dive-bombing, I know --
they're just soooo fun to watch, though much of it seems to be territorial. One guy barely perches to have a drink, then some other h'bird comes barreling outta the trees to run the first guy away from the feeder.

2. don't sweat it
they'll find food elsewhere if the new owners don't feed 'em. They're feisty little critters.
