Announcing the Chapel Hill Pitt-stop POOL PARTY!!!
On September 26th, the People’s Republic of Chapel Hill is expecting a visit from every DUer’s favorite writer, Mr. Pitt. I don’t know the details yet, but I would like to take this opportunity to invite anyone who happens to be in the area to join me for a pre-Pitt pool party that afternoon, as well as a post-Pitt shindig after the big show. It just so happens I’ll be house-sitting that day at a lovely home in Hillsborough, a mere 10 minute drive from downtown Chapel Hill. I have made arrangements with the owners to allow for some evilDUing shindiggery on their premises.

If anyone is interested, please let me know, either on this thread (which I’ll TRY to keep kicked before I head out for the beach tomorrow) or by DUmail. I’ll give you directions, and we can begin planning in earnest. We might need someone with a big-ass van (hint, hint – you know who you are) to help out with hauling people into town for the big shooooo, and back out to the homestead. The short bus will also be available, but I usually only haul “problem children.” ;-)

Also, I’m happy to accommodate whoever might need to sleep over, although bedroom space will be limited (mostly to a pair of guest rooms). I’d anticipate very little in the way of sleeping, anyway, if we can put together a reasonably raucous crowd.

So there you have the invite – y’all let me know how much effort I need to put into making this thing happen. Despite the poor showing on the thread I started to assess interest, I have decided to forge ahead on faith alone (“if I plan it, they will come.”). I wanna hear from NC folks, any in Scurrilina who might make it up for a day and a night, and same for you DUers in old Virginny. Lemme hear from ya’.

1. Be sure to...
Count the silverware, before and after. Buncha n'er-do-wells. :D

3. Catering Tip:
Drive to Lexington. Goto Beck's Barbecue. Buy lots of Minced Pork, lots of slaw and lots of Brunswick Stew. Stop on way. Buy lots of buns. Make potato salad. Serve lots of beer and other cheesy comestibles. Bask in success of clambake.

For backup: Dalton's in Rocky Mount.

This is a no-shitter alert from Scheisskopf Consulting. Our motto: "No matter the subject, Scheisskopf Consulting has an associated opinion or suggestion. Scheisskopf Consulting: For the best in stuff not unlike stinky and circular muscle groups!"

4. Nonsense!
Moonlite in Owensboro is the best in KY (or did you mean Lexington, NC?), and the best in NC is pretty much right in my backyard (Allen and Son).

Nevertheless, your advice is appreciated (even if fatally flawed). We'll try to arrange a live satellite feed to pipe you into the party in the event you're unable to attend in person.

7. I love Chapel Hill!

Spent the first weekend of August there two years ago for Sleazefest 2001. It was the most fun I'd had becoming physically exhausted since I dated that nymphomaniac!

Unfortunately, I haven't had the cash to make it down there again. Maybe someday....

8. How far away are you?
I'm not charging a cover, and maybe someone in your area could do the carpool thing...

9. I'm 600 miles away...

...in Hartford, Connecticut. Way too far for a day trip!

Besides, I have to save what money I've scrounged up for the September 13th Rockabilly Jam in Montreal, including two nights at a bed and breakfast and god knows how much for gas.

Thanks for the invitation, though! Hope you have a great party.

11. Hey Asheboro
(zoo-town!)

Whaddaya need to know? I don't have any details on the Pitt-stop yet (and neither does Mr. Pitt, as best I can tell).

With a little luck, I'm heading off for the coast this afternoon, but I'll try to check in on this thread from time to time. Can always resurrect it when I come home if I'm unable to respond from the sand and surf.

Uh, I mean, "I'm hosting a pool party - ask me anything." ;-)

12. just the basics
time, location, etc., as you know 'em... and where will's speaking (i assume he's speaking somewhere)?

13. See, nobody knows yet
where Will is speaking. Only that it'll be in Chapel Hill. On the 26th.

As far as time, I dunno - a pre-party should be an afternoon affair, and a post-party should be an all-nighter. Location for the pool party thing will be a private residence in Hillsborough, 10 minutes outside of downtown Chapel Hill. Easy driving to and from.

Lemme know if any more questions pop up. I'll be around all day. Drunk and belligerent. ;-)

15. Pre-party?
Let's serve soda at that. I need not be weaving and slurring on the podium. I love HST, but I don't have the chops.

16. so your beach trip is off, then?
sux-

regardless, would love to get together, large group or small doesn't matter to me- as for the pool part, cs is far too kind to inflict the sight of himself in a bathing suit upon anybody...

You mean to tell me you have not been greeted with naked women waving palm-leaf fans at you and dangling grapes over your face at EVERY stop on this tour???
