TAKE THE TEST: Where do you stand politically?
Edited on Tue Aug-26-03 07:01 AM by Born_a_Democrat
This is a test that then puts you on a political compass. I saw this a while back and thought it would be interesting to see if my place on it had changed....It takes about 10 minutes to do but is definitely very informative.

This is me:

edit: There are a number of questions and then based on your responses you get placed...Obviously where the two lines meet thats where you land

edit2: DOH!...sorry forgot the link:

the numbers are a little different, but not by very much. Here's this morning's score:

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -7.25
Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.44

And yes, I ADMIRE Chomsky, and I VOTED for Nader; no big surprise there. And when it comes down to the wire, it'll be ANYONE but Bu$h, but right now I'm FOR Kuchinich.

17. For the umpteenth time...
...my first score ever on this test was -6.62/-8.77, and my second was IIRC -4.18/-9.25. As you see, I'm not exactly a flaming socialist, but I'm not a Milton Friedman, either.

BTW, astrology is related to the lib/auth scale because religion and superstition make one more authoritarian whereas secularism makes one more libertarian.

18. What an amazingly bad poll!
(I'm right where Jean Chretien is, by the way.)

A sampling of some of the questions (agree or disagree):

The businessman and the manufacturer are more important than the writer and the artist.

Astrology accurately explains many things.

Some people are naturally unlucky.

:wtf:

19. How so?
Here is my take on those questions:

The businessman and the manufacturer are more important than the writer and the artist.

Is another way of asking "Is commerce more important that culture?".

Astrology accurately explains many things.

I believe this is used to determine your adherence to authority - the more extreme your position in either direction the more you are open to being told what to think. If you strongly agree or disagree, you are fully in one camp or the other, suggesting that you are not questioning the "authority" that you are biased towards. Choosing only agree, or disagree suggests you are still open to the alternative, if a convincing argument or evidence is provided.

Some people are naturally unlucky.

This is a very subtle one that has serious implications. If you believe people are just naturally unlucky, to me, it means that you believe that how society is structured has no affect on the wealth or otherwise of its members.

A more obvious way to put this question would be "Poor people are just naturally unlucky" or "Rich people are just naturally lucky" or even more obvious: "The way society is structured has no affect on whether a person is rich or poor".

Remember, these questions are not just "Agree" or "Disagree", there are degrees of agreement or disagreement. Sometimes the questions have the same outcome whether you strongly agree or disagree, but different if your agreement or disagreement is only mild.

Well that's my analysis anyway.
