1. you can take a look and see if they show up here:
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_a.htm

Just change the letter at the end of the URL to take a look at programs starting with other letters.

2. I'm gonna guess you're running Win98 with an HP printer
And either Quickbooks or Quicken.

I don't know what it is about "Rnaapp," but if Win98 got hung, that was always the culprit for me (not responding). Still don't know what it does.

To check for "crap that has downloaded itself into my computer," get a spyware program like AdAware (free version) or Spybot (guessing it's free too).

3. RNAAPP (Remote Network Access Application) is a dialup executable
part of Windows. Killing it won't hurt anything unless you're dialed out to somewhere.

4. It's a bit slow, but you can Google each of the names
Typically, within the first few links, you'll not only find out what each one is but also whether you can safely remove it. This stuff is probably all from legitimate programs -- but you may not want it all running fulltime.

If you go to Run on your Start menu and enter "msconfig" you will get a System Configuration Utility dialog box. The Startup tab shows a list of everything that loads on startup, and you can uncheck anything you don't need. (But don't uncheck things you don't recognize -- some of them perform necessary tasks as part of the startup and then terminate.)

There may also be programs you need occasionally but don't need to have running full-time. For example, I also have Stimon -- it's StillImageMonitor, and I need it for my scanner to work. But I don't use the scanner that often, so I unchecked it in msconfig and then created a shortcut to start it up as needed. (Windows\System\Stimon.exe)

5. A few of them...
Rnaapp - Network app. You need this if you're on a LAN and with some DSL/Cable modem setups. I don't know about modems

Loadqm - Used by MSN Messenger

Hpgs2wnd - Used by HP scanners and/or printers

Osa - Stupid memory hogging MS Office plugin. You can kill it.

Hpgs2wnf - Used by HP scanners and/or printers

Systray - Windows component

Qttask - Stupid Apple Quicktime service. Kill it.
