Oh no. Now she tells me she's allergic to my cat

she loves him, as I do, but says she only sneezes when she's home. At work, she's happy as a lark (however happy that may be).

I can't get rid of my cat.

Any realistic suggestions?

How long has she been around the cat?

and I found this one who needed a home. He's a short-hair, and a bit of a challenge, but a good cat. I love cats - have had them in my home since I was a kid. My first cat grew up with a dog and thought she was one. It was okay, because the dog thought she was a cat.

Would it help to calm him down to get him neutered? I have hesitated, never did it before, because my previous cats seemed much more civilised.

neutered and it didn't affect his personality at all, he was as cussed as ever, Really loved that cat.
My sister and a friend who has a cat are allergic. But it only affects them if the cat rubs against their face and sleeps on the pillow. The reaction as opposed to airborne allergins is puffy eyes not sneezing.Both my sister, when me and my cat visit says I don't need to wipe the cat with the solution and my friend says he has a reaction so rarely, he puts up with the reaction rather than wiping off the cat every few days.
I suspect you should get rid of your girl-friend if she is jealous of your cat.

usually allergic to cat spittle left on their hair when they clean themselves. Go to a good vet supply and feed store. They sell bottles of a liquid you wipe on the cat with a damp cloth and it works for a few days, then you do it again.
If it is only a little sneezing, never hurt anybody, I get hayfever and don't take anything.
It might not be the cat. Can be the carpeting, mold, etc.
If she really thinks it is the cat and nothing works, get rid of her.

Frequent brushing (when she's somewhere else) keeps the dander down.

much dander. Dogs do. People have been proven to be allergic to cat spittle and dog dander. However, cats like brushing, stimulates their skin nerves.

Keep that in mind.

You might wanna just keep the cat.

First, to make sure that it's the cat and not the blankets on your bed. And second to get any one of those easily obtainable allergy medicines for people who are allergic to cats they love.

I think she has a love/hate relationship with him. She also does not like doctors, or taking anything at all other than the occasional aspirin.

Any dude who asked me to choose between him and my cats would not like the answer.

Do some research on the web about allergies and see if she's willing to try anything to help herself. I would suggest keeping the cat out of the bedroom and running a good quality air filter in there. That may help her some. If she's really allergic, then she'll appreciate you trying. If she's looking for a quick exit for Mr. Kitty then you'll figure it out soon enough.

I do have to say that one of the reasons I started dating my husband was because he was the ONLY man my cat ever liked. She had a history of attacking my dates or turning her back on them and making burying motions like she was in the litterbox. The first time he was at my house the cat walked up,hopped in his lap and flopped over so he could rub her tummy...

Pets know a lot more than we think.

.....whose male owner gave him up after 14 years together because the missus of about 3 years never could like the cat. It's very, very sad to separate from a pet. They miss their *family* and I'm sure they never understand what happened. This cat was uprooted one day and flown across the country to be with me. Never will see his pal Jeff again. Sniff.

Or take OTC allergy meds. Vacuuming up the cat hair more often would help too.

Don't allow her to think getting rid of the cat is an option if it isn't. Wouldn't be for me.

And they may come again (and again and again).

But the cat is with you for life.

and neuter your cat. People who want us to make choices between our pets or them are selfish, jealous, immature babies and who needs that? She probably doesn't like you to have human friends either. Give her the heave ho!!!

Dump her and keep the cat.

when she miraculously stops sneezing, point out that the cat is still around and her allergy is in her head. Might work; might not.
