Jetsons' Rosie comes home
http://images.google.com/images?q=tbn:L4g31d_-ZDcC:mrl.nyu.edu/~perlin/rosie/rosie.jpg has become

Not really news, I guess. Saw a couple of these robotic vacuum cleaners on Slashdot. Anyone own either the Robocleaner or the Roomba (shown above)?

1. they suck
They're basically for tiny apartments. Give me a dust buster and five minutes and I'll do a much better job than a Roomba.

They should make a robot that fetches beer out of the fridge for you. Now THAT would be a really cool machine.

:)

2. While we were remodeling the kitchen
I had the fridge off the wood floor, and scooted over into the living room, right by the sofa. Because that was the most out-of-the-way place, of course.

For a few weeks, I had the male dream fulfilled... I could get a cold beer without getting off the couch.

But I hijack my own thread... how about an army of these little buggers, tooling around my house and freaking out the dogs? :)

3. Roomba's stink
My sister picked one up at Bed, Bath, and Beyond a few months back. It gets stuck on her throw rug, under the couch, and even in corners if it enters at just the right angle. Oh, and it scares the heck out of her cats!

She ended up returning it and went back to the old Hoover.

4. Roomba's are only fair
they do a good job where they travel but they're slow and not particularly efficient. They also get hung-up easily.
