Going to my last night of work tonight....

It's my last night at the restaurant, "retiring" (ha) to write full time.

Probably the best job, certainly the best bosses I've ever had, and probably ever will have. Most of my "regulars" came by last night to wish me well.

My biggest goal tonight is to finish the shift flawlessly, completely professional. I'm going to miss it a little -- with a little luck, my chef will style me a bit tonight... he alluded to something along the lines of a "special" after-shift dinner.

...and goodness knows I'll be at the wine! Last night of my discount, after all! :)

even if they are for good reasons. Could you tell us more about the writing projects that you have planned?

My first book did really well -- and earned me enough credibility to approach publishers with my second, which is some 40K words so far, and will probably round out at 60K. That plus I have enough coming in from articles to make the switch.

The new book is a fiction based around 9/11, specifically Flight 93, and draws from the oddities of the official story to "fill in the blanks" with what might've happened. I've been on TV and interviewed in enough newspapers with regard to my early observations, and gotten enough interesting mail, to come up with a possible story. Sort of a thriller, because I don't give away the full extent (and gravity) of the situation until the end. Plenty of good stuff for the military buff, as well.

I think it'll do well.

Fine, fine last night. Some of my favorite customers came in tonight, everyone wishing me the best. My chef made me such a pork chop, grilled on his mesquite fire and served with a maple bourbon sauce... I love these guys, I'm sorry in many ways to be leaving.

BUT... now I've got a work schedule for writing, and I'll be able to spend my evenings with my wife (who works days). I'm in a great space and looking forward to it; I've got the time to volunteer for the Democrats as things progress as well, and you better believe I'll be doing that...
