Johnny Cash
I want to see the Johnny Cash portion of the video awards tonight but I don't think I can sit through all those down to the navel dresses. I just watched the arrival cattle show for 30 seconds and I'm nauseous.

I'm an old broad of 60 so I have no clue who these babes are, but is it possible that their talent is in inverse proportion to the amount of breast they persist in showing ? Just wondering.

If someone who has an understanding of how these shows run could give me some idea of when Johnny will be on I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

3. You can be sure they'll drag it out....
He's their big cross-market draw for the whole show!

4. I am waiting, they just said "Cash can not make it"
But then the bimbo announcer said "who knows what will happen." So I am stuck with that crap on in the background waiting for Johnny Cash. I deeply admire him.

6. I knew he was not going to be there. He is in the hospital.
But they were going to have him on from the hospital, maybe only by phone. I want to see what they put on to honor him, and if he wins.

5. Oh cmon now
I'm only 3 years off 60, and both you and I lived through the 60's when a lot worse than boobs being shown off happened.

Even nuns wore bikinis.

Let's not get carried away here.

7. I was busy having and raising my kids in the 60's.
I didn't get to the places where you saw what ever you saw, and they surely didn't have it on tv.

I'm not a prude, and what someone wants to do or wear really doesn't bother me usually, but when these babes have to see who can wear the most outrageous dress, ( or lack thereof ) on these award shows I feel I want to express my displeasure. I wouldn't even think of turning on the damn show if it weren't for Johnny Cash.

You're a boomer...give it up.

9. Saw Roseanne Cash last weekend - one classy lady.
She did an outdoor concert/benefit in Pittsburgh at Hartwood Acres on a spectacularly beautiful (and rare) summer evening. This is the kind of place where people bring blankets and picnic baskets and babies and dogs and enjoy all kinds of great music under the stars. Last Saturday was to benefit Bradley House, which for nearly 100 years has been providing shelter for kids whose parents are temporarily unable to take care of them. Sort of a temp orphanage. I've done fund-raising projects for them and met the kids who are terrific little people - and some of their stories would break your heart.
Kerryfan, it will make you happy to know that Roseanne, who is a very good looking woman, wore jeans and a pretty, long sleeved shirt, with no cleavage on display. She was attractive, but her focus is on her performance. Reminded me of Diana Krall in concert.

What I liked the very best about her was when she thanked everyone for coming out to support Bradley House and asked them to keep that support going all year long. She said, "Every child comes into this world deserving their best shot at a good life and it's OUR job to see they get it." She lives in New York City with her husband and four kids. She talked about her step-mother, June Carter, who died a few months ago and dedicated a song to her. When she finished, she very softly said "That was for you, June." She also gave lots of recognition to every musician in her back up band. It was a really great evening!

10. Sounds like a wonderful evening with a wonderful person.
My husband and I saw Johnny, June, and the Statler Bros. in 67. That was when June was just starting to tame him a little and was shortly before they got married.

I'm taping the awards show so I don't know if he has been on yet. Everytime I turn it on it seems like I am in a time warp. LOL. Guess it is just the kids doing their thing. LOL.

Thanks for sharing your story about Roseanne's concert.

11. Old broad of 56 here Kerryfan. I love, luhooooove Johnny,
but I'm passing on the show. There's probably talent there, I guess. Most generations have their statistical share of it. Our problem is we grew up in the Golden Age of rock--the talent in our generation was a statistical anomaly, blowing the curve for everyone else--the rock equivalent of 5th-4th century b.c. Athens, or the political genuis of revolutionary America.

I try to appreciate just how very lucky we were to grow up in a golden age, and try not to judge other generations because they fall short of a standard that was just a very rich fluke.

BTW, for every fluke that outdoes the average, there are flukes that fall below--as in our political leadership right now. How poor this country is to have such incompetent and grasping people in power!

12. my only question is this
Why did the so-called progressive generation choose Johnny Cash? Was it because of his great Soundgarden cover, or excellent NIN cover, or what? Personally I commend the man for the outstanding job he did with both, but why is MTV suddenly paying attention?

13. He's an original, rebellious, hard partying, hard playing man.
Lots of people have jumped on his bandwagon, especially after June's death. Why not MTV as well?

14. They probably thought he'd die before the show so they could have Puffy do
a "remix" of Ring Of Fire, complete with real ring of fire!

Actually, Johnny Cash is their thrown bone to those of us who actually like music with soul and balls and heart, and to pretend they actually promote real musicians and not market driven "icons".

15. Credibility
When you have none of it left, like MTV, you try to surround yourself with people that do.

16. MTV needs a lot more than Johnny Cash to get credibility
Kurt Loder would have to start wearing jewelry made of the bones of Woody Guthrie to even come close to having any credibility with me.
