People, I just got back for the hospital!
A few minutes after I posted the "WAHHHH!" post, I noticed it was starting to rain.

And I had forgot to go get my mail.

So I go outside, in a light sprinkle.
I'm about up to my mailbox, (it's about a 25 feet walk from door to box,) and I feel a little "prickly."

Next thing I know I'm flat on my back and 3 or 4 people are looking at me.
One says, "He's waking up! Thank god!"

I'm taken to the hospital by one of the neighbors, turns out I got nailed by an indirect strike of lighting! :wow:

I'm going to be all right, but I hurt all over, and will do so for the next 3 days or more.

My sisters will look in on me during the next couple days.

Holy shit, what an experience!

I am SOOOOOO lucky though.

Did your life flash before your eyes?

On edit: Glad you're okay! Lightning is one of the few things I'm afraid of.

Well, the odds of being hit twice are astronomical. You now no longer have to worry about something which is still a statistical likelyhood for the rest of us!

Get well soon... :toast:

7. Oh come on, that's arse mathematics!
Upfront, the probability of being hit twice is a lot less than the probability of being hit once.

Unfortunately, we have to go on "event" probability, which kinda resets things - he's just as likely to be hit as anyone else!

31. Back To Probability 101 For You
Sorry, but that's not correct. Even individual events exhibit progessive probabilities. That's how the whole concept of statistical process control works.

I teach probabilistic mechanics for a grad school in the Chicago area, so i know from whence i speak.

29. WOW!!
What an amazing and frightening thing, Archae! I'm glad to hear you're OK.

BTW, about lightning striking twice: one of my relatives was hit by lightning three times in her life. She must've been a good conductor or something...

I wonder if you'll start to remember more about the hit as time goes on. It gives me the creeps to see you felt "prickly." Glad you're okay.

You don't reckon that the neighbours may have just whanged you with a frying pan, stolen your wallet and then stuck a power lead down your pants as an alibi?

13. First, I'm VERY glad you're okay.
That "prickly" feeling is the electrical leader going up into the sky from you. If you're ever out in a storm and feel that, squat down on the balls of your feet, with the feet close together. That somewhat reduces the chance of being hit, reduces your contact area with the ground and makes it more likely that if you are hit, the bolt will not pass through anything vital.

Again, I'm glad you made it. We need every good Democrat we can get... :)

16. My thanks to all of you.
I can't sleep, because laying down hurts too much.

The only place I'm marginally comfortable is in this office chair.

But thanks to all for your concern.

It happened so fast, the "prickling" and then the big zap all happening in less than a second.

My neighbor saw it happen out her window.
(She took me to the hospital.)

She told me I must have been out cold for at least 2 minutes.

And she doesn't know CPR.

But if I can get hit by lightning, that means it's pretty much a sure thing Smirk and his House and Senate whores will lose next year! :D

19. One funny description I just heard.
I was talking to a frined just now, telling him about how sore I am.

He told me it sounds the same as if I would have gone to Milwaukee, to the Harley Davidson anniversary, found as many of the Outlaws 'cycle gang I could find, and hollered to them that Harleys suck and they were all sissies. :D

28. Cool! Are you self-powering your computer now?
Can you direct your hand to the fridge, and power it up?

:-)

Glad to hear your okay - that's scary. We'd hate to lose ya!

But hell, a little lightning strike isn't enough to keep a Wisconsinite down now, is it? Why, when I was a young'un, out reaping the field with grandaddy's best horse and harvester, we'd get hit constantly by lightning. We just shurgged it off, and went on workin', adn were thankful we had some light to steer by.
