DIRECTV

Has anyone had any problems with them? They were supposed to connect my TV to cable yesterday but a rainstorm came. They couldn't come. So then I called them and they said they can't come until the 6th. I then talked to a supervisor who called them further and still couldn't get the local office to get them here. Then the sun came out and I called for them to come, but they went to jobs scheduled after me. Then I got on the phone again and called. They still wouldn't change their time of arrival. They did offer me Tuesday; but, because of my job, I couldn't be home. So then I called today again and they won't come. Then I found out that I could have them come Tue because they don't want me to start work until Wed. So I called them and they wouldn't come. Anyone else have this problem? Why won't they come and hook up my TV? Why is it so hard for them?

sounds more like they have a sexual disfunction. They need help.

Except that in my case it was the cable guys that were playing it and drove me to cancel my order with them and place it with DirecTV. I've had the satellite going for three years now and love it.

I've had DirectTV for years because cable didn't come this far into the boonies till about a year ago. I hated it. I received a signal for half of the channels I was paying for and the other half wouldn't come in either if it rained or snowed; Which meant no tv during bad weather- when I most wanted to watch it. We had the Direct TV guy out constantly but nothing ever seemed to help. We turned the dish on our own every which way too. Never worked right.

Plus the closest network tv I could get was out of NY- No local news. I just got cable hooked up about a month ago and love it. I pay less for more channels, it never goes out in bad weather, and I get my local networks.

I like it - except for the Murdoch part now. We don't have problems with weather unless snow or ice is covering the dish.

By the way, local channels are coming in a month or so.

However, they are broadcasting a Bob Marley show from the 70's on their Freeview channel. One of his best!

You'll get a couple far fringe left stations if you do...many of their program WORLDLINK and FREESPEECHTV will be enlightening..they are competitively priced...trust me..service is better..cancel the order..get DISH!

and I was being a smartass about the stations...FSTV has some VERY interesting perspectives on globalization that do not get aired even on PBS..and when one fact checks, the programs are usually accurate in the history of legislation and the ill effects of the programs.

I have to call the landlord to get permission. I have her written permission for DTV. IF I went to Dish I am sure that they would need the same thing and that's another few days of delays anyway.

First, his boss sent him to the other side of the county, so he was there 50 minutes after the designated time window for arriving. He did a poor job aligning the dish. All channels were fine in clear weather, but in cloudy weather the satellite with FSTV and my favorite obscure channels would fade out.

I think it depends upon the local contractor.

remember, you're receiving from multiple satellites, and during period of bad weather some stations - if not all - can be affected. snow is particularly hard to deal with. to the way clarify whether it's inclement weather or faulty alignment is to check you signal strength across multiple transponders (setup menu, varies from model to model).

one nifty trick is to spray PAM or another kind of nonstick cooking spray on the dish before the snow flies. it'll slide right off all winter.

but in S. Florida you don't get days and days of rain. It lasts a few minutes and then your signal is back. I used to have Adelphia, which periodically went off for a day or two at a time, fewer channels, poor picture quality, and more expensive. For me DirecTV is the better option.

Edit: My son has Dish but when researching all the options, I'm getting a better deal with DTV because of the way Dish breaks up their programming packages. He likes Dish because of more programming for the kids.

Also is affected by weather like any satellite. I have DirectTV - my sister next door has Dish - mine has proven better and even more reliable in bad weather - for what it's worth.

Was afraid when Murdoch made his move - but have seen no difference - yet. Unless you want to pay for and get Al Jazeera, it seems to be a tossup.

Give DirecTV heck about it. Maybe they'll get a better contractor in the future.

I have called them several times about it. Their offices are in Idaho so they were great on their end. It's down here in Florida that things weren't working out. They were so nice and friendly on their end. IT's the local contractor who is refusing to connect me until then.

I have direct tv and all the channels work fine, have lost signals with extremly heavy weather ( The kind that makes you seek shelter). I had cable but moved to the country so direct was the only option. The best thing is they are cheaper than comcast. Set-up is done by contractors, call another contractor for the install.

Can't you do it yourself? We did.

They need to bring me the dish!

We went out and bought a dish and the receiver and connected it. Maybe things are different in other parts of the country. The place we bought it contacted Directv and we had service when I plugged it in.

Granted this was about 5 or 6 years ago. Good luck! :)

They sell the DirecTV equipment. If you don't want to wait and feel like doing it yourself, maybe that's an option. But, you're probably getting a better deal from DirecTV than you would at Radio Shack.
