Tigers lose 100th, John drops to 0-6
My buddy Mike B and I went to Comerica Park last night to see the Tigers vs Chicago. Pretty good game -- Mike Maroth (6-19) took the loss for two bad pitches -- one to Frank Thomas (3 run HR) and another to Carlos May (2 run HR). It was Arab and Chaldean Night at the ballpark...pregame invocation was delivered by an Imam, though it didn't help.
Here are my stats for the season (which may not be over -- I never learn and am persistant. And my friend Annie says she'd still like to make another game this season and Cleveland's coming to town next).
All six are losses:

June 1 NY 10-9 (17)
June 28 ARI 7-0
July 12 BOS 4-2 (11)
Aug 19 TEX 4-2 (16)
Aug 22 ANA 6-5
Aug 30 CHI 5-2

John
The Tigers need to win at least nine of their final 29 games to avoid being the worst team in modern baseball history (surpassing the 1962 Mets). Oh well, lose or lose big, it's still Tiger baseball.

1. LOL
I went to the Las Vegas 51s (Dodgers' AAA team) last week and watched them lose 11-6. The thing I realized after the last out was that this was the first game that I went to where "my" home team lost; this goes back to at least 1968, and includes teams like the Mets, Yankees, Niagara Falls Rapids & Mallards, Brooklyn Cyclones, Tidewater Tides, and the Las Vegas Stars & 51s.

Hey 5th, speaking of the 1962 Mets, did you see the article on ESPN? They held the "Prat-Fall Classic" between the '62 Mets and the '03 Tigers. Guess who won?

Just think of this; in 7 years, the Amazins went from doormat to the Penthouse. So, the 2010 Tigers should be awesome :-)

2. Oh yeah -- I saw that
As I recall, the Tigs won two in a row in that "series." This would never happen in real life.
The first game I ever saw was in 1968 as well. Not only did the Tigers win the World Series 4-3 over the Cardinals that year, but Denny McLain won 31 games (last guy to win 30). Almost needless to say, the Detroiters lost to Baltimore, 5-3 and Denny took one of his six losses on the season.
Good news is that the Tigs are losing with a bunch of kids. Yes, Jeremy Bonderman is 6-18, but he's also 20 years old and should, by rights, be pitching AA ball this year. We'll get better -- Lord knows we can't get any worse.
John
Last year the Tigers lost over 100 and won all three games I went to. (They lost number 101 yesterday).

3. Actually, they CAN get worse.
The worst they could go this year is 34-128. They can go 33-129 next year! Or how about 20-142?

4. Spoken like a true Michiganian, ih8
I had to beg off going to the Central Michigan/Michigan game at A2 because of the Tiger game. So, the day revolved around watching CMU get their asses handed to 'em, 45-7 on TV, then driving 200 miles round-trip to watch the Tigs lose 5-2.
Like choosing between the pistol or the gas pipe.
John
Oh yeah -- my HS, Arthur Hill, lost to the Midland Dow pukes 41-0 Thursday night.
But it's STILL Tiger baseball. It's still Chippewas and Lumberjacks, too.
