Anyone remember soul singer Joe Simon?
Edited on Sun Aug-31-03 04:34 PM by NightTrain
What a smooth, silky voice that man had. And so many hits! I cannot, for the life of me, understand why none of Joe Simon's classic soul recordings get played on America's worthless oldies stations nowadays. Talk about an unjust rewrite of music history!

Anyway, just to jog your memory, I'll list some of Joe Simon's bigger hits. See how many of 'em bring a smile to your face!

Nine Pound Steel (1967)
(You Keep Me) Hangin' On (1968)
The Chokin' Kind (1969)
Moon Walk (1970)
Your Time To Cry (1971)
Drowning in the Sea of Love (1972)
Pool of Bad Luck (1972)
Power of Love (1972)
Trouble In My Home (1972)
Step By Step (1973)
Theme From "Cleopatra Jones" (1973)
Get Down, Get Down (Get On The Floor) (1975)

Oh, and if you're hoping that Joe Simon may turn up to do a concert somewhere in your neckof the woods...I wouldn't hold my breath. In the late 1980s, he became the Reverend Joe Simon, and has renounced the life he led up to that point. In fact, he refers to his secular singing career as "cow dung."

Hey, whatever gets you through the night, Brother Simon. Thanks for all those great soul tunes anyway!

1. Tommy Edwards, Junior Walker, Gloria Lynne, Dinah Washington
Trainman, I know you must also love the above, too.

Here's a radio program you'll quickly get addicted to. It's on the Rice University station, and it's called:

"Blues In Hi-Fi" Wednesday evenings at 7 CST (followed by another superior program called "Treasures Of The Sixties")

Find 'em at KTRU.org 91.7 FM

3. Listen on-line at...
KTRU.org

Thursday evenings at 7 CST, there's the inimitable David John, hosting the best name ever for a radio program: "Chickenskin Music"

Music so fine, it'll make your teeth white, skin tight and childbirth a pleasure.

Or, as we say: It'll make you stand up and say "Howdy"

4. Thanks, but only a guy could call child birth a pleasure. Been there and
done that, so NOT under any circumstances would it be a pleasure. (I know it is a hyperbole.)
