Credence had no # 1 hits...but 5 songs go to #2.

((((Apologies to all who saw this same factoid on St. Jarvitudes "random fact" thread a while back.))))

92. I saw the Rolling Stones in like 1988.
I didn't want to go, but a friend had a ticket she was giving away. It was the "Steel Wheels" tour, . It was outside at the Oakland Arena. You couldn't see anything on stage to speak of--everything was on big monitors. Some guy next to me had his head between his legs the entire time, retching. Yecch. Charming.

A friend of mine saw the Stones years earlier--in the 70's, and he said during the concert Mick turned a hose onto the front row, of the exclaiming "I'm going to hose you off, like I hose off my dogs!".

And, yes, she had a birth defect. From what I know it's been corrected. Say what you will about Keith, he's a totally devoted father and husband. As a husband, he's a hopeless romantic, totally monogamus, and has never tolerated Mick and Bill's cheating ways.

I'm not ashamed to admit that I adore Keith Richards.

The band members started auditioning for a new singer. Every time, Phil Collins (who was nothing more than a drum player back then) would interrupt like, "no, no. Peter used to sing that song like THIS..."

Eventually they came to the conclusion the best replacement was Collins himself.

The Diamonds were a cover group - white performers who sang cover veersions of black artist's songs. They did "Little Darling" to make fun of the doo-wop groups that were popular in 1958, and it ended up becoming one of the bigests hits of that year, and a R&R classic.

54. Inspired*......
"Louie Louie" was the creation of Richard Berry, a Los Angeles sideman, session player, and singer-songwriter. Inspired by Rene Touzet's "El Loco Cha Cha" and Chuck Berry's "Havana Moon." On a side note: Richard Berry also wrote "Have Love, Will Travel." Both songs covered successfully by The Sonics.

"The Twist" was the creation of Hank Ballard (& the Midnighters). This song was inspired
by Clyde McPhatter's (& the Drifters) "What'cha Gonna Do". Chubby Checker covered Ballard's "The Twist."

*sampled heavily, lifted, borrowed, stole, plagerized....guess 'inspired' just depends on who, what, where, when and why.

96. Good one
Never have heard that particular nugget. Knew the who were brawlers, often w/ each other, but didn't know of this strange sounding meeting of icons.

Was there more to the story, i.e. did the two have a history? Was Hoffman just hanging out or did he want the chance to speak?

65. Keith Moon named and started Led Zeppelin
He and John Entwistle had qit The Who (again) and wanted to start their own band. They knew Robert Plant and Jimmy Page and Keith said "This band will go down like a Lead Zeppelin". The spelling changted a bit but the name stuck. And Keith and John went back to The Who and the rest is history.

67. Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath) originally replaced...
Edited on Sat Dec-04-04 05:51 PM by opiate69
Mick Abrahams in Jethro Tull in 1968, after disbanding Black Sabbath. His tenure lasted all of about 3 weeks, when he decided to give Sabbath another shot. His only performance with Tull can be seen in the Rolling Stones' movie "Rock 'n Roll Circus".

on edit: Also, Iommi was a highly ranked amateur boxer before deciding on a career in music.

77. Actually, it's his right hand (he plays left handed.)
Edited on Sat Dec-04-04 07:58 PM by opiate69
But after the doctors told him that, a friend gave him a few Django Reinhardt records for inspiration. Reinhardt's fretting hand was horribly disfigured, with only 2 usable fingers.

They had "Oh, What a Night" in 1962, and "Morse Code of Love" in 1982.

(Edited because someone else had posted my trivia bit about Simon & Garfunkle.)

87. a couple I like
The bass player on most Doors albums was Doug Lubahn from Clear Light.

The band Tommy and the Bijoux on Smiling Men With Bad Reputations by Mike Heron is the Who. Apart from Roger, of course.

Stiv Bators from the Dead Boys is the person who gave Iggy the famous jar of peanut butter at the Cincinnati Rock Festival. (Somehow, I think this one is BS)
