Ok so I belong (I think I might quit sometime soon) to this MSN group with freeper types.. anyway someone posted this thing, which with help from my DU friends, I debunked:
"Actually that story is bogus. See this site:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/cemetery.aspPlease read the links, they explain a lot.
Also, I think its fine to stop making kids say the Pledge of Allegiance. It does say “One Nation Under God.” Well what if you don’t believe in God? Why should you be forced to say that? Religious things like that should not be forced upon people."
Then I get a reply from the person who first posted:
"Everyone is entitled to theirr own opinion, that is what this country is all about! I do think the pledge and prayer should also be available if children do want to participate. Not made to...... if it goes against one's belief's.....but for the children that do believe should have the opportunity also."
Me again:
"Well, I disagree with you there, if one does believe in God then you really shouldn’t be praying in school, a public place. The bible states that you should not:
Matthew 6:5-6 (King James Version)
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."
Then I get this reply, from another person:
"okay kate ...left the other one alone...but baptists preachers daughter here...if u are going to quote scripture..then u have to quote it all..not just one or two passages...and no I wont exchange scriptures with you..that is a very sacred thing to me..and I wont belittle it in anyway....and on these boards is not the place...no harm no foul okay?...just no scriptures please!"
So.... their answer when I point out that they're wrong is to say "its sacred don't quote it" ??!!!!!!!?!??!?!?! I was always under the impression that they (right wingers) could quote it whenever they want HOW ever they want, I guess that just applies to them?
