5. It's 3am in Alaska
This is the time of day I usually work on a study of 2-butoxyethanol

Why?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=2790107&mesg_id=2791391

I hear some of the 'gulf war syndrome' vets don't or can't sleep at night. I suspect this chemical's effects for them on this and the other odd symptoms, too

8. It's again 3AM in Alaska
Edited on Thu Dec-16-04 08:02 AM by Dear Maggie
Hello all

3AM Alaska time is about 7AM east coast time

Anyone else awake?

Someone told me to check http://www.coasttocoastam.com/
and look under contrails to see what a scientist has found out about the chemicals that get dispensed through the upper atmosphere

... especially near airports, too

I already noted that what some soldiers suspect as only kerosene
might actually have the horrible additive of 2-butoxyethanol ... that defats the skin and is suspected (by me) of causing 'gulf war syndrome' such as Chad's www.valdezlink.com/chad.htm

Maybe Alzheimers, MS, overweight, infertility ... for unsuspecting Americans

4AM

OK, this is what I found:

11. Looking into the Sleep Function
I was wondering about what category 'the sleep function' would be in? I expect that it would be a symptom of either the nervous system or the endocrine system. I looked it up, and it would seem most likely a function of the nervous system (central nervous system?)

Here is a quote from NINDS - part of the National Institutes of Health:

"Nerve-signaling chemicals called neurotransmitters control whether we are asleep or awake by acting on different groups of nerve cells, or neurons, in the brain. Neurons in the brainstem, which connects the brain with the spinal cord, produce neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine that keep some parts of the brain active while we are awake. Other neurons at the base of the brain begin signaling when we fall asleep" http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/brain_basics/understanding_sleep_brain_basic.htm

I only give another view of this kind of ailment that may also part of the nervous system damage by those exposed to 2-butoxyethanol. It is a common chemical found in paint, household and work cleaning products, etc.

It is also a neurotoxin that the first gulf war vets were exposed to (in gun cleaner, jet fuel additive, kerosene?) and would fit in the list of central nervous system damage along these lines:

Short term memory loss
Difficulty concentrating
Depression
Suicidal tendencies
Extreme irritability
Difficulty sleeping

I recently learned that 'gulf war syndrome' vets have been also been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. www.gulfwarvets.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000271.html I actually suspect that this ethylene glycol monobutyl ether is the most probable cause of 'gulf war syndrome' but it has not been studied.

Realize that a strong exposure to this chemical will look like a flu-attack. But if people double check what they were doing 15 minutes before that was different than ususal, you can usually pinpoint the source of exposure. Many times eyes are burning and hurting, urine turns dark, and a fatigue. The chemical causes hemolytic anemia which is compensated at first ... maybe for many years ... with the bone marrow making red blood cells at an accelerated rate. Ask you doctor to check more in the area of the red blood cells.

And you may want to keep a copy of all your blood results and urinalysis and track what is normal for you over time. Is there a trend of red blood cell counts dropping?

Why I'm looking into this chemical exposure

Check for what products contain 2-butoxyethanol
(CAS Registry Number: 000111-76-2)
in the Household Products Data Base
http://hpd.nlm.nih.gov/ingredients.htm

5% concentration is not safe for home use, per one expert in product development.
(So probably half that concentration for double strength)

Also check for the complex version Diethylene glycol monobutyl ether or 2-2-butoxyethanol
(CAS Registry Number: 000112-34-5)

3. Its out in Bev Harris land
Just like her credibility, which is to say completely gone.

What a shame. The whole BBV situation falling apart. I still don't have the story on that debacle. I only know what accusations have been floating around on DU.

That's hard to do, you know.
