I predict a national shortage of window screen fabric in 2005

Screen fabric is the stuff that keeps the bugs out. Some people call it screen mesh.

Today, a customer wanted some 8-foot-wide screen fabric to enclose a sun porch. I only carry 6-foot, so I called the company.

"I need a roll of 8-foot screen fabric."
(laughter at the other end...) 'Yeah, you and about nine million people in Florida.'

Floridians use 8-foot screen fabric to enclose their sun porches, and the 2004 hurricanes managed to de-enclose basically every sun porch in the Sunshine State. Hence, Phifer Wire, the largest supplier of screen fabric in the industry, is currently running double shifts making only 8-foot fabric and they don't have a date for conversion back to narrower widths.

If you see some and you think you may need it later in 2005, go ahead and get it now.
