6. You should feel good about it!
So many people can't bring themselves to help save someone's life, simply because they're afraid of needles. You have done a very good thing.

I've been a regular blood donor since college - the next time I donate I will reach 6 gallons.

11. wow, I'm impressed! 6 gallons?
I'm 1 donation away from a gallon. I was on anti-convulsants for years and couldn't give, but since I'm not anymore, I give every two months. 6 gallons....wow, I bow to you!

14. Oh, p'shaw, I still feel like such a lightweight. But thanks.
Where I give they have the wall o' donors, all the frequent donors' names are listed. There are some folks over 20 gallons!

7. Good For You! -- You're Heterosexual, Aren't You?
I've tried to donate blood... I summoned up all my courage to face the needle, but they screened me out.

Did you get woozy? Do you feel tired? Did it hurt?

9. And bravo to you for trying, Allen.
Personally I think they need to find a way to allow homosexual men to donate. There continues to be such a shortage of blood components.

8. What's your blood type?
I'm O- the universal donor type. I give blood at every drive. I figure if due to genetics I am lucky enough to have good blood I should share. :)

21. If you're AB also then you did an extra good thing!
Since it's the rarest off all. Your still did a wonderful thing even if your A or B type! :)

10. Did they bruise you?
They used to bruise the living SHIT out of me about 1/2 the time. You'd think they'd get the hang of it after 5 gallons, wouldn't you?

Last time I went to donate, I told 'em all the meds I was on, and they didn't think they wanted any of it. That's changed, though....

20. Yeah, a miss...
Edited on Sun Dec-19-04 12:30 AM by BiggJawn
I've had them go all the way through, or (this I hated!) go in and miss, and then instead of pulling out and trying again, they'd just "dig around" until they struck oil.

I had bruising 1/2 way to my wrist once...

I have veins that jump out of the way when they sense a needle...

22. Nope
no miss. They had this presure device that detects where a strong vein is.

23. Cool!
I have to have blood drawn every quarter for my A1C test. Last time I was in there the Phlebotomist hit that suckah like Jed Clampett bringing in a gusher.

Didn't feel a thing!

On your way to your gallon pin! Cool!

13. good for you!
i can't do it because i don't weigh enough (plus i'm on some meds so i don't know if they'd want me) but i wish i could do it. my brother-in-law's life was saved by a transfusion. it scares me, but i'd do it, even though i'd probably faint. ;)
