Are you obnoxious when you're drunk?
I was at a party last night with some friends. Had a great time except for a few encounters with some obnoxious drunks. I was alone at my table for a few minutes. This guy comes over and sits down.

Sits down doesn't really do justice to what he did. It took him about 5 minutes to manage the difficult task of sitting in a chair. I kind of stared - it was like looking at a car accident. I can't remember the last time I saw someone so inebriated, yet he still had a beer in hand.

Once he sat down, I wished him a Happy New Year and introduced myself. I reached out to shake his hand. He actually kissed/slobbered on it. He then fell into somewhat of a stupor. I deduced that he was incapable of conversation, so I watched the dancing while waiting for my friend to return. A couple of minutes later he told me that, "You're not very pleasant." Whatever.

Later, I was standing talking to a friend. A guy comes up, who I very briefly met earlier, and puts his arm around me and wishes me a Happy New Year. I returned the greeting. Then he took the glass of champagne out of my hand and held it to my lips for me to drink. I took a sip, but he tipped the whole glass (much faster than I could drink - and who chug-a-lugs champagne anyway.) It went down my neck - even my stomach was wet. My hands were also drenched, because I tried to prevent the whole dumping thing from happening. I walked to the nearest table and started to mop up. He scolded me, because I was supposed to drink faster - he actually said that.

The same guy later on groped one of my friends when he barged into a group picture and undid her dress. He also broke another friend's camera.

Now I'm all for cutting loose and having a good time, but drinking does not give you license to behave like a jerk IMHO.

I never met the drunks in question they were drunk. My guess is that I wouldn't enjoy their company even if they were sober. Does drinking change your personality or just amplify it?

Rant over.

1. I have been known to be obnoxions when drunk.
Edited on Sun Jan-02-05 03:35 AM by coloradodem2005
Which is a big reason why I have almost never been drunk since July. Of 2003. I had made a real ass of myself when drunk a lot of times. I had only been drunk once since July of 2003. The other thing is that hangovers really suck.

Though I had generally been a happy drunk, I sometimes act a little too crazy.

2. I hate to admit it

but I get somewhat beligerant and paranoid when I'm drunk. I'm always worried someone is trying to rip me off when I start drinking.

Atleast that's around my friends. I'm more quiet around people I don't know...but then again, I have never really drank in front of people I don't really know...

4. Drinking makes me, and friends are astounded by this, even more blunt.
though, at least in chatting with me, i don't exhibit any actual signs of drunkedness, and if i weren't so honest about my sobriety i'm fairly certain nobody would know.

6. I don't remember.
Honest!

I haven't been drunk since 1978, so I simply don't remember how I acted when I was schnocked on schnapps.

9. Thank you
I don't have a problem with someone being a bit - shall we say - lubricated. I just think accosting people crosses the line of acceptable behaviour.

20. It wasn't intentional
It's fine for someone to get some help to lose their inhibitions (to a certain extent) but don't be so uninhibited that you accost someone.

13. When I get too much,
which has not been for many long years, I get quieter.
People think I am sober. Once someone even handed me their car keys because they though I was sober. No..., that was the wall holding me up. Corners are good.
But that was long years ago. I don't do that now.

Teetotaler now. I figure life gets me depressed enough, why should I have to pay $5 a glass for it?

17. Good rant.
I bet some of the behavior you describe occurred because it was New Year's Eve. Lots of people hide behind holidays like NYE and Christmas (think mistletoe) in order to drink and debauch!

Since other people have mentioned how they behave when drunk, I'll have a go as well. I get very mellow, then everything seems incredibly witty and then I too become lubricated and accost my boyfriend.

21. Chances are this guy won't even remember what an ass he made
of himself.Alcohol does bring out the very worst in a lot of people. Most people in prison were drunk when they committed the offense that landed them there.
It's really the most harmful drug used in our society, hands down.

23. Oh yes...when I've had a number in a row
I turn into Professor Loony. Throw some weed into the mix and I go into what my friends called "scrap mode"- arguing every point on everything with everyone. Not physical, but obnoxious as hell, yes.

The worst I ever get is the "I love you man" stage, and I tell people what I really feel about them. That's about it.

28. I'm obnoxious, but not sexual assault-drunk.
That guy is probably a prick in real life as well.

I ended up on New Years playing Halo 2 with a bunch of 16-year-old kids of the party's hosts, and calling Rush Limbaugh a "fat c*nt." At least, that's what I was told i did. That's about as obnoxious as I get.
