Rant about a Salesman....what an ass!!!
For three days last week, a man accompanied by a 14 year-old girl, have been trying to sell vacuum cleaners to everyone on the block. My mom told me that on the first day, she gave him an excuse about her husband not being home and that she was busy...He comes back 4 hours later and my mom again tells him she's busy and she's cooking dinner. He pointed to my 13 year-old sister, "I could give her a job, I have a lot teenagers working for me. Some make over $2000 a week." :wtf: My mom politely ignores him and he's off.

The next day I show up at my mom's house and see a young girl vacuuming. My mom's husband was watching her give the demonstration...and my mom was HIDING in her bedroom!!! Her husband told the assholes that she wasn't home and he didn't want to see whatever they were selling. They came in anyway, and my momma ran and hid!!!

I spot the male talking to my sister ALONE in the kitchen about the so-called job. I interrupt him and say, "what the hell do you think you're doing by offering a 14 year-old a job? Have some respect for her. You should only have conversations with the ADULTS of the household." He said, "Well, her mom didn't mind." I screamed, "Yes she did, but she was too damn polite to say anything." He starts talking about all the teenagers working for him then he gives me a sneer and says, "You can talk to my boss about it, he's the second richest man in America." I replied that I wasn't impressed and to get the FUCK out my mom's house. Then I asked him, "Are you selling vacuums or are you pimping little girls." He left.

My mom and her husband thought I was being rude.
:wtf: How the fuck was I being rude?

1. Wow, some nerve.
Not you, the smarmy salesman. First of all, I HATE being solicited at my own home. When you try to be polite, you usually have to get bitchy because most people won't take no for an answer.

I don't blame you, one bit. You weren't nearly as rude as he was after still coming back after he was POLITELY told no twice. Blow it off, and your parents will forget all about it. :)

4. yes...
I think my mom and my step-dad are angry because they didn't have the guts to tell him off. He deserved it. He told my mom he only hires really young, pretty girls to sell products. I hope he comes back tomorrow. He's been harrassing everyone on this block but I'm the only one who has been 'rude' to him. I'll have a lot of fun tomorrow if I see him again.

2. Being rude is not always a bad thing
tell the folks that you did them a favor. The guy sounds really sketchy.

3. Some guy once came to our house selling replacement windows
along the way, he kept making comments about how he hated kids (i.e. me and my brother) so my dad kicked over his display and threw him out, and yelled after him, "you're not moving fast enough"

Classic.

6. There are some sales people that won't take "No" for an answer
unless it is accompanied by "...and Fuck Off!" This is something your mom needs to hear: People who won't take "NO" for an answer are trying to manipulate you. People who come back day after day are doing the same. You mom needs to develop an answer for these people so they won't bother her, like maybe "I already have one."

Something sounded really weird about this guy. I don't know any fourteen year olds walking around with older men and into strangers' homes, and possibly their bedrooms, to get a floor cleaned for free in a demonstration.

I think you were protecting your sister from a menace they couldn't see.

7. Is this not illegal, really?
It is not like the kid is babysitting. So, his boss is the Microsoft co-founder? I am sure he would be happy to know that he is employing 13 year olds by peddling vacuum cleaners. How sad is that.

If they come in without permission it is burglary.

8. That's what I thought! LOL!
He was such a psycho. The young girl did all the work and he was trying to talk to my sister when my mother was hiding in her bedroom! Such a pussy, that woman...sometimes I can't believe she is my mom:crazy:

9. Did he leave a card?
Sounds like he is either exploiting the work of the kid, and I even wonder if he may be some weird sex offender vacuum selling cult leader.

10. no......
when my stepdad asked for the price of the vacuum, he said he'll have to wait for mom to see the demonstration:wtf:
When my stepdad asked for his number he said, "This company has been working in 90 countries for over 72 years, we don't have offices." He's a liar and if he comes back I'm calling the cops...

11. Saying No to a salesman isn't enough
They're trained to absorb your "no's" and try to talk their way through them.

When they're making their pitch, cut them off immediately and say something to the effect of "I'm not interested, go away, and don't come back."

20. A friend of mine threw a cup of coffee on a car salesman...
because he wouldn't take "no" for an answer. This was after my friend placed a tape recorder on the guy's desk and asked him, "Do you mind if I tape this conversation?"

Don't try to sell my friend the "full coat"...

13. This Happened to me in 1996!
It was a woman with a mid-teen girl who tried to sell me a $700+ vacuum for an apartment with only 1 (small) room carpeted! It was my apartment in a duplex I had just bought. I felt like a wierdo for letting this child clean my rug while the woman did her pitch. I, too had to get rude to get rid of her!

22. You weren't rude
You were absolutely correct.

In fact, having young people "going along with him" to sell these products sounds possibly illegal.

I thought kids under 16 needed a permit to work. Maybe I'm wrong.

Either way, the dude sounds very shady - and especially his comment about hiring "pretty looking 14 year olds" to help him. He sounds like he's almost pimping little lolitas around.

That and he sounds annoying as hell.
