microsoft word subsitute?
I hate working around the stupid "features" MS Word puts in your work- namely formatting issues involving bullets, and the fact that the damn program freezes with a C++ runtime error every time I try to save something. Is there a good, freeware word processor, with lots of fonts, sans bugs and annoyances?

2. Can't you change preferences
for things like automatic bulleting?

Sorry, no alternative to suggest. I've used Word for 10+ years and never had a crash issue. Maybe it's a hard drive problem? Have you tried re-installing?

3. OpenOffice ROCKS
We have Word at work, but I barely touch the thing. WordPad or NotePad do all I need as far as wordprocessing goes (I'm a webmaster, so I don't do a lot of print-oriented documentation).

Definately check out OpenOffice-- not only is it as good as MS Office, it's also 99.9% MS Office-compatable, too. The only thing OpenOffice doesn't have is a relational database, but you can get a free one of those from www.mysql.com (which is better than MS Access, too, IMHO).

Good luck!

4. Those problems may be a result of bigger issues on your machine.
What's causing that? I don't remember ever getting a C++ runtime error in Office. It's usually stable.

5. Thanks, and about my system:
No, my system is a very well-maintained 2.8 ghz P4, 512 RDRAM, Radeon 9700 custom rig... do defrags on it every week, along with spybot and adaware. I just hate Word, and to a lesser extent, Microsoft.

I have tried changing options but the descrpitions provided make it impossible for me to figure out what I am changing.

I will try Open Office... thanks!
