I have newfound respect for DU's moderators

I've been administering a small board for the local disc golf club, and I find myself unwittingly moderating petty sniping and backbiting between the founding members. Ye gods. People are so bitchy! Almost as bitchy as cavers. I regret ever having taken out a bad day on anyone on this board. Someone always has to clean up the mess.

I've reformed, I tell ya. I will strive to be Good Hardhead from now on. :D Thank god for the DU. And a :toast: to the Mods. (Except when they lock my sex threads. Bastards.)

I used to go spelunking twice a year when I was in high school. We usually went to Kentucky.

Actually, the last count for TN I heard was about 9,000. I don't even have to leave town to find caves over 5 miles in length. I once thought I was a caver, but I know too many *REAL* cavers to entertain that illusion anymore. I'm a cave afficionado, a casual caver, perhaps even a spelunker - a derogatory term. But it is great fun, when it's not absolutely terrifying.

7. Great pictures!

It's been more than 25 years and I only went with high school groups. No claim to any fame. I've never rappelled down anything and never gone scuba diving in a cave.

I did see a number of bats, albino crawfish and crickets, wriggled through a lot of narrow long tunnels, negotiated muddy hairpin turns with seemlingly bottomless drop-offs, climbed waterfalls, shined my light through a lot of bacon and stained glass and curtains and drapes (lol) and engaged in mudfights, though.

I always thought the best part was coming back out. The end of sensory deprivation!

Yeah, coming out into the world of color again is nice. After about 5 hours underground, I become fidgety. Nothing looks as good as the sun after a day underground. Except the moon.
