Poll question: Best Harrison composition w/ the Beatles
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 10:42 PM by St. Jarvitude
I realize that some of his best work came in his solo career, but I thought I'd focus it on his Beatles compositions.

In my head, it's a dead race between While My Guitar Gently Weeps and Here Comes The Sun. I gave the nod to Here Comes The Sun because While My Guitar Gently Weeps was definitely aided by the kickass Clapton solo.

And, just to stir the pot a little... Something sucks. That ought to do it :)

Norwegian Wood was John Lennon all the way. George just played sitar on it.:)

15. Ewww.....WMGGW has that icky EC lead.
Sorry.

Just one of my pet peeves.

I've been a guitarist for 35 years and I can't fathom why everyone thinks that EC is so great. I think he's highly overated. He's never written a single good song (on his own)and has always relied on others to do the hard work while he just comes in and takes the credit. And to be quite honest, his guitar work, aside from the Bluebreakers and Cream stuff.........sucks.

Plus, he stole George's wife, and has since dumped her. I know that George forgave him......but that doesn't mean he's not an asshole.

Even Macca's and Lennon's.

28. This is true
And Lennon was a bad guitarist. Great songwriter but essentially only had a do-wop style.

5. Something is a great composition, but not my favorite tune
I picked "Within you Without you" because I like Eastern music and it is a great composition also.
And, I do like "Don't bother me" too, but not as much as some of the others on the list.

7. Within You, Without You is a wonderful piece ....
Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 10:45 PM by Trajan
Extraordinary interplay between cellos and sitar .... truly a masterpiece ....

You didnt include 'Blue Jay Way', or 'Only a Northern Song', or "It's All Too Much' or 'Taxman', or 'Savoy Truffle' ....

Something: that was the first guitar solo I ever learned .... so it is quite special for me ....... You neednt love it ....

My 16 yo daughter, who has become as Beatle fan, recently shocked me by learning the very same solo .... and the chords as well ....

Just to stir the pot some more: SHE is awesome .... YOU are not .....

9. I already knew that, so...
No pot stirred :P

I included Taxman... I'm sure. And yeah, I left off Savoy Truffle which is one of my favorite songs, but I realize that most people don't agree with me on that.

One of my faves, too...

But I've gotta go with "Here Comes the Sun". "Taxman" is great, too, and "Love You Too" is probably my favorite of his Indian-inspired songs.

Miss ya George!

18. I want to tell you
I feel hung up but I don't know why
I don't mind
I could wait forever, I've got time

Insert killer Harrison riff.

Also, Something was hailed by Frank Sinatra as "the greatest love song ever written".

25. To my ear, Here Comes The Sun is the definitive Beatles song
much what they had done earlier is present in it in new ways; from guitar runs, to percussion (even the hand clapping), to the traditional Beatle vocal harmonies that helped make them famous.

its all there in Here Comes The Sun, and when i think of the Beatles, the music of that song is what I hear in my mind first.

26. Norwegian Wood = "Knowing she would"
when I learned that and listened to the song - it all made sense.

Due to the subtleness - have to register a vote for that song. Great set of tunes to pick from, though. What a hole is left by Harrison, since he left us.

29. Nice anecdote, but unfortunately...
the DIEBOLD 3000 voting machine tabulator registered your vote for "Think for Yourself". Lennon wrote "Norweigan Wood"

Great song, though :hi:

but not the author - egg on face - but with a little pride in at least knowing how the song does, indeed, make sense. :D :hi:

27. Harrison also wrote "Don't Bother Me" from MEET THE BEATLES.
A great, but sadly overlooked, early classic by the Fab Four!
