Where are all the threads about the CUBS?
OK, I know the whole prospect of a potential special prosecutor is really exciting...but didn't anyone else see the Cubs beat Atlanta in the first game of their playoffs? How about that Kerry @#$! Wood?

You must understand, I haven't lived here long and have only been following the Cubs for a short time cause I'm not big into sports, so I would normally defer to my elders...but I just had to point out what appears to have been an obvious intervention by the sports gods, who incarnated themselves in Kerry Wood's form last night. Not only does he pitch like an immortal (well, till they have to pull him out late in the game, but anyway) BUT he had the biggest hit of the game. And we didn't even see his big play in the 2nd innning because we were still coming home from work.

Anyway. Like I said, I haven't been following the Cubs very long, but it just does warm your heart to see a guy having that good a game, no matter what side you're on. I have to say I do worry about what happens if the Cubs make it to the playoffs...especially if the Red Sox do too. Because that really IS a sign of the Apocalypse.

C ya,

The Plaid Adder

1. First road win in playoffs since 1945 - I for one am in shock! :-)
I am told I was at the 45 world series but I have no memory.

What I do recall is 84 and winning the first 2 at home games - and then losing 3 to lose the division playoff.

Ok - guys - two more times!

I'll get back when I stop holding my breathe!

:-)

They're such a cute little, nonthreatening franchise.

:)

What other team is named after a baby animal.

5. Three or four threads hopped around the boards yesterday.
Though it appears that most of the baseball contingent is around during the day. Not many shared the joy last night.

Reports from friends and acquaintances around Portland indicate that just about everyone who doesn't have a team of their own in the playoffs is backing the Cubbies. Claudia's (sports bar) was packed for the game last night, with two lonely Braves fans amidst a sea of blue.

So, one game at a time. One win, two more to go. Let's get one today! Go Cubbies!

6. As a life-long Cubbies fan, I prefer not to talk about it......
At least until my beloved Cubs win at least one series.

I was there in '84, when they absolutely broke our hearts.

Besides, I have mixed emotions. I really want the Cubs to play well, and win. Actually I'd settle for just "play well and not embarrass themselves or their fans."

But..........

If through some miracle, the Cubs won the Series, well, things just wouldn't be the same. I don't know how to explain it. Guess you just have to be a Cubs fan, which I'd rather be than say a fan of the best team money can buy.

You know who I'm talkin' 'bout.
