My tribute to Kheph...H. P. Lovecraft ~ Call of Cthulhu....
Edited on Sun Jan-16-05 03:29 PM by jus_the_facts
This quote from 'Call of Cthulhu seems almost prophetic now....it was a favorite topic of Kheph's..he loved all things regardin' Cthulhu and Lovecraft....I shared his love of these tales...RIP Man! :)

...."The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age. ~H.P.Lovecraft~ The Call of Cthulhu

...from Black Seas of Infinity-The Best of H.P.Lovecraft selected by Andrew Wheeler

About H P Lovecraft

Renowned as one of the great horror-writers of all time, H.P. Lovecraft was born in 1890 and lived most of his life in Providence, Rhode Island. Among his many classic horror stories, many of which were published in book form only after his death in 1937, are ‘At the Mountains of Madness and Other Novels of Terror’ (1964), ‘Dagon and Other Macabre Tales’ (1965), and ‘The Horror in the Museum and Other Revisions’ (1970).

7. "The heavy old book was bound in thick black leather...."
Edited on Sun Jan-16-05 02:54 PM by jus_the_facts
".....much cracked and flaking with age. It was sealed with hinges and a lock of rust-eaten iron, in the manner of books printed in Europe during the 17th century. I opened it gingerly, and was appalled at the noxious miasma of decay that arose to my nostrils from the withered, stained, and yellowed pages; nevertheless, I had come too far to hesitate now. Mastering the involuntary spasm of nausea that welled up in me as I breathed in the almost palpable reek of corruption that arose from the ancient and moldering tome, I pored over the thickly printed pages."

As Cthulhu is well known to be my roommate

I'd offer the young cultist a chance to meet his master earlier than the rest of humanity as I'm impressed with his zeal and piety toward his lord--and my roomie--Cthulhu.

Plus I was about to rustle up some food for Cthulhu anyway, so serving up the young lad would save me some time.

(Between you and me, don't worry about Cthulhu screwing things up--he's only running to take votes away from Bush. He'll drop out before the actual election, so there's no need to worry about him being a spoiler candidate.

What? You thought he was evil enough to support Bush over Kerry? Man, my boy Cthulhu is awesomely evil, but he's not evil and stupid like the sheep that follow Bush around.)

19. Cthulhu was originally an assistant math professor.
On the plant Voorhl, deep in the 23rd nebula.

Bet you didn't know that.

And who could forget Plush Cthulhu?

All those happy memories of merciless Great Old Ones slaughtering hapless millions of innocents. :) Those were good old days, indeed.

27. "A doom-dragged whine"
"It was a godless sound; one of those low-keyed, insidious outrages of nature which are not meant to be. To call it a dull wail, a doom-dragged whine or a hopeless howl of chorused anguish and stricken flesh without mind would be to miss its most quintessential loathsomeness and soul-sickening overtones."

(From "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward")

What a fabulous, fabulous writer. Khephra had a lot of taste.
