9. it is hard, very hard.
It took me years to quit. Finally, every time I would buy a pack and feel guilt, I would crumple up the pack and throw it away. This got to be expensive and difficult to keep cigarettes in reach at a time of weakness. I finally kicked the habit. Keep it up, I see the results of cigarettes everyday, as a physician. It is not pretty. As a vascular surgeon I have a number of double amputees that wish they had quit. Not to mention lung cancer, heart disease, pancreatic and bladder cancer etc etc.

18. I'm doing that now
I don't smoke much, but I'm buying almost a pack a day...

But I think I'm going to quit starting this weekend.

12. Twenty-three years for me...
It can be done! I'm told that the nicotine gets out of your system in a matter of just a few days -- after that it's just pure habit. My trick was to break the habit; instead of sitting around the apartment and lighting up, I started taking long power-walks. It helped me avoid the obligatory weight gain that goes with quitting.

Good Luck To You!

13. Hang tough! It won't be easy, but you can do it.
It's been 7 years for me, and I would still love a cigarette. But I won't, and neither will you. Good luck.

19. It's funny (odd) to me that I can go a week and not smoke.
It really doesn't bother me but then I'll smoke a few. What does this mean? Am I not really addicted?

24. Awesome, man.
Keep up the good work! It's hard as hell, but worth it when you can wake up and breathe easy... let alone walk up a couple flights of stairs without having to catch your breath!!
