What cartoon characters are lesbian?
The Fundies don't seem to care.

Does this mean you gal-gal-lovin' types are headed for Heaven, or does this mean the guys on PTL are just boner-obsessed?

I think Daria has a time-share on the Isle of Lesbos. And you?

In keeping with the Flinstones theme you have to call it a "rockbuster".

Which would work especially well for the guys into that stuff.

47. Well, anime is crawling with gay/bi female characters
Haruka & Michiru (don't know their names in the American dub) from Sailor Moon were a couple in the original Japanese version, but were made in to cousins in the American dub, the fundies would have blown a fuse if a children's show showed a happy gay couple.
Utena and Anthy from Revolutionary Girl Utena definitely had something going on between them, and the movie pretty much fleeched out that relationship.

83. I think both of you are confused.
Which is understandable, considering how long the show went on and how badly mangled most of it was by censorship.

Sailormoon Sailorstars (Season 5, the last one) was never commercially translated and brought to America. AFAIK, it hasn't been licensed by either ADV or CWI, who hold the rights to Sailormoon Classic & R, and Sailormoon S and SuperS respectively.

The Sailor Starlights were female (as all sailor senshi are), and came from outside the solar system after their planet was destroyed by Sailor Galaxia. They came to Earth to find their Princess, Kakyuu, and figured it would be easier to find a woman if they became idol singers. So they magically changed themselves in a boy band called the Three Lights (neither the manga or the anime goes into exactly how, but the most accepted fanwank says it's connected with their henshin powers as sailor senshi). In their guise as the Three Lights, they were physically male, but whenever they went into battle, their henshin sequences turned them back into their female forms. IOW, this was for plot reasons and not the result of a translation screwup/censorship, and was present in the original manga (though the manga downplayed it greatly, as the Starlights were very, very minor characters that basically had a one-shot "guest appearance" in one of the last tankubon).

However, there were characters who suffered inadvertant gender reassignment surgery in the English translations in the name of avoiding controversy. In the very first season, two of Queen Beryl's generals, Kunzite and Zoicite, were male lovers. In the English DiC dub, the very effeminate Zoicite was made female. Similarly, the even queenier Fisheye of SuperS' Amazon Trio was also turned into a female in the CWI dub--largely due to a plotline that had him in love with Mamoru, our heroine's boyfriend. I didn't watch the SuperS dub, mainly because I hate Chibi-usa no matter what language she's speaking, but from what I've heard there was another minor change. In one episode, Usagi goes to Michiru because she wants to learn how to be more elegant, so Haruka & Michiru invite Usagi, Mamoru and Chibi-usa to a tea ceremony. It was performed by a little boy who was considered to be a sort of child prodigy in it. Well the Monster-of-the-Week ended up attacking the kid, Sailormoon saved him, and at the end of the episode they ended up coming back to another tea ceremony. Only the kid was so blinded by Sailormoon's fabulousness that he decided to dress in drag as her. :P

Needless to say, from what I heard the kid was made a girl in the dub...:puke:

85. There's a whole genre of soft-core gay male porn for teenage girls
in manga. It features very feminine-looking teenage boys who lust after each other.

I've heard of lesbian porn for straight men, but I'd never heard of gay male porn for female readers before I went to Japan.

HEY YOU GUYS, Mike Malloy is talking about this very thing.
He's asking why don't they talk about the Lesbians, saying the Fundie men are obsessing on sex with men.

68. Why, haven't you heard?
Being a lesbian is a beautiful thing that should be nurtured, while being a gay man is dirty, sinful, and disgusting.

69. to be fair
The fundies are just as bad to lesbians. Robertson is always calling feminists lesbians. I do agree that rank and file homophobes are worst to gay guys though, and many are aroused by girl on girl action. I agree with the suggestion of Velma from Scobby Doo but youre talking to a guy who has no gaydar and prides himself on it.

73. They are.
But the focus of these campaigns against gay men, by men is suspect.

which is the whole point.

These guys are closet cases or simply cannot deal with the little bisexual thoughts that may occasionally appeal to them.

Why else would they believe homosexuality is a choice, if they themselves did not have to choose between woman or men?

With many of the fundies obsessed with gays, either they are bisexual, or they are in the closet.

76. of course, they mostly talk about guys
I agree, likely closeted cases or bis. Rank and file gay haters though who are guys, I admit are generally like "WOW TWO GIRLS MAN, THATS HOT", but they are also the kind who are like "I'D KICK A GAY GUY's ASS."

78. Again, I will say that
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 11:47 PM by Kurovski
people who like two women can also "like" one man.

Umm, bisexuals, for instance.

People who are secure and contented in their sexuality don't care what anyone else does. And no, I'm not including criminal sexuality here.

Being bisexual by definition means you are not homosexual. but the fundies don't want anyone to dwell on that.

Fleeting thoughts and feelings are dark demons to be conquered, in their view. And some choose to conquer it by knocking other folks around.

I suppose unresolved issues about sexual abuse would also account for some violence. But getting near a man, even if you've been raped, is so taboo and shameful to some that the attitude keeps people from getting the medical help that could free them.

70. Betty, Veronica, Wilma, Pebbles, any female rabbit opposite Bugs Bunny,
Superwoman, Batwoman, anyone ever portrayed by Sigourney Weaver, Peppermint Patty, Lucy (though I think she's bi), Lois Lane (come on... could she really not have known his secret identify if she were that interested in him), Maggie and Sally Simpson and Marge, their inadequate role model, Josie and the Pussycats (they didn't call them that for nothing), Jane Jetson and Judy (it runs in the family, doncha know), Penelope Pitstop (nothing like a chick in a racecar)...

... and the two siamese cats from 101 Dalmations

Did I miss anyone?

There is no Sally Simpson.

At least not yet.

82. They're not lesbians, either.
But I'm sure they're on a Right-Wing hit list somewheres.

However, RWingers did try to bring PBS down. And now, we have to deal with Tucker Carlson as they begin their twelve year plan to do just that.

81. Japanese animation has an entire genre.
Yuri. It's a sort of tongue-in-cheek name given to the genre, because of the prevalence of lesbians in anime named Yuri. :P Another name for it is shoujo-ai ("girl's love").

Yuri's opposite number is Yaoi/shounen-ai ("boy's love"), which is male-male stories.

weird that she only dated some old fogey mutant. You'd think that someone who had the power to look as hot as anyone could imagine would be all lesbian pimpin like Ellen.

Quire obvious.

I think Scarlet (IIRC, she was either a tanker or truck driver) also was at least bisexual.

But as I said in the dumbest argument I ever had on the Internet a few years ago, Lady Jaye was strictly hetero. Flint and Duke were her personal boy-toys.
