Tell your tales of winter storms.
Much of the east coast is getting hit or is about to get hit with what just blew over the northern Midwestern states. I am very, very nervous because I have to go pick up Mrs. V. at Dulles tonight. Her flight comes in at 8:25. We live about two hours from that airport when the weather is good. I wish I had a thermos, but since I don't I'll be taking coffee in the cheap thermal coffee pot that came w/ the coffee maker. I'll take sandwiches & apples. I'm taking a couple of those down throws that are all the rage. And I'm putting the snow shovel in the car, in case I get plowed under. I also have bright orange things meant for use while collecting trash on the road -- they'll come in handy if we get stuck somewhere.

The latest forecast called for 5-9 inches of snow. It probably doesn't sound like much to some of you, but the DC area is notoriously lousy at snow management. Even so, I am probably overreacting, but it's my defense mechanism.

Tell us your experiences of winter storms.

Put a bag of snow melt in your trunk, too, if you can. Be safe!

We don't have snow in Salt Lake right now (only in the mountains), but since the day the boy king was sworn in, there's been a thick pall of fog, like some plague, hovering over the city. It's creepy.

2. it's snowing like crazy here in chicago, too.
we got about 6" yesterday, and big, juicy flakes are falling now. i would add a bag of kitty litter to your list, bertha. somehow i suspect you have one.

i still have memories of the great chicago blizzard of '67. i was 13. i think it was 27" in 24 hours. my mom worked as a secretary at a hospital that was only 2 blocks from our house. we ended up with our living room floor covered with people who could not get home, and needed to be back the next day, anyway.
when we shoveled our walk, the snow piled up on the sides were over my head.
it was fun for me. no school. lot's of company. i didn't even mind shoveling.
as for today, i am glad i have a good snow blower.
