I had my identity stolen. It's been a 'fun' week.'
All my accounts are frozen. The only money I have is change found in pockets etc. I need to get all new accounts, SIN, cards etc.

If they ever find the person, I want to do something very non-Canadian to them. Torture sounds good.

5. I've had company as well, but I've been pretty tied up with this mess
since Wednesday. It appears that they stole my mail. From that, they were able to clean out my bank accounts, investments, apply for credit cards in my name, get a cell phone. We think they even tapped into my home voice mail - they returned a call to the bank for me!

12. Not sure yet - it's still being investigated
Bank Statements, Bills (credit card, phone etc.) Paystub, something from Revenue Canada.

The cops who came here were full time fraud police. They said that there is tons of this going on.

19. me too.
but it was only one account and was fairly easy to prove i was not responsible.
still, it's a time-consuming pain in the butt that i really didn't need.
the police report, the fraud packet, the proof, the notarization, the credit company letters, the phone calls, etc...

sorry to hear about it...good luck.

17. Someone at the bank noticed unusual activity
It wasn't even my branch. She froze my account until she could verify it. When I tried to use my debit card, I got a message to contact my bank. When I checked my account online, I was shocked. It was one week from the first transaction until I became aware of the problem.

I hope you catch them

22. Happened to me, too -- took me a couple of years to fix.
These dickheads stole my outgoing mail from my mailbox that had all of my payments -- including one to a credit card company. On top of that, there was a payment towards a student loan and that one had my SSN on the payment slip. These guys had a good time for awhile without me knowing. Then one day I get a call from Sears asking me if I had opened another account with them. I said that I had not. The man informed me that someone had been in with my info trying to get a Sears Card. Thanks to him, I was able to prevent the guys from further using my info.

I had to put flags on all of the credit reports stating that I was to be personally notified at my home number before any credit could be authorized. It also took a long time to get all the shit off my credit report that these guys had done.
