URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA
540 PM EST SAT JAN 22 2005

.A POWERFUL WINTER STORM WILL TURN FEROCIOUS TOMORROW MORNING
BRINGING WELL IN EXCESS OF A FOOT OF SNOW TO ALL OF SOUTHERN NEW
ENGLAND...PROBABLY A TOP TEN SNOWSTORM IN THE HISTORIC ANNALS OF THE
PAST 100 YEARS OR SO.

THIS STORM IS EXPECTED TO CREATE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS FROM THE
INTERSTATE 495 CORRIDOR AND THE MASSACHUSETTS TURNPIKE TO THE SOUTH
COASTS OF MASSACHUSETTS AND RHODE ISLAND.

THIS IS A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING SITUATION FOR THOSE WHO
VENTURE OUT DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE STORM TONIGHT AND SUNDAY.
TRAVEL IS NOT RECOMMENDED UNTIL LATE SUNDAY.

TWENTY TO 30 INCHES OF SNOW WILL ACCUMULATE IN EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS
INCLUDING THE CAPE AND ISLANDS AS WELL AS ALL OF RHODE ISLAND BY LATE
SUNDAY...MAKING IT HIGHLY PROBABLE THIS WILL BE ONE OF THE FIFTH
WORST SNOWSTORMS IN RECORDED HISTORY FOR BOSTON AND PROVIDENCE.

DRIFTS OF AT LEAST 6 FEET ARE EXPECTED IN PARTS OF EASTERN
MASSACHUSETTS AND RHODE ISLAND WITH WIND GUSTS AFTER MIDNIGHT ALONG
THE COAST REACHING 55 TO 65 MPH...EXCEPT POSSIBLY TO 75 MPH ON
NANTUCKET AND CAPE COD SUNDAY MORNING.

THE STRONG WINDS WILL CAUSE SEVERE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WITH
WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AT TIMES. THE WINDS LIKELY WILL ALSO TRIGGER
AT LEAST SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES NEAR THE COAST...AND TO A LESSER
EXTENT INLAND.

OVER CAPE COD...NANTUCKET AND MARTHAS VINEYARD...THE SNOW
WILL LIKELY BE OF A SOMEWHAT WETTER CONSISTENCY...AND THUS CREATE THE
RISK FOR WIDESPREAD POWER OUTAGES SUNDAY MORNING.

SNOW WILL TAPER TO SNOW SHOWERS LATE SUNDAY AFTERNOON OR EVENING.
CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WILL PERSIST INTO LATE SUNDAY
EVENING ACROSS EXPOSED AREAS.

AMOUNTS AS HIGH AS 3 FEET POSSIBLE. THE MOST VULNERABLE LOCATIONS
FOR 30 INCHES OR MORE OF SNOW ARE ESSEX...PLYMOUTH...NORFOLK AND
BARNSTABLE COUNTIES IN MASSACHUSETTS AND PROVIDENCE COUNTY IN RHODE
ISLAND.

ADDITIONAL ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL MAY CONTINUE ON THE CAPE AND ISLANDS
INTO SUNDAY NIGHT.

ANY TRAVEL IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED UNTIL LATE SUNDAY OR SUNDAY NIGHT.
IF YOU LEAVE THE SAFETY OF BEING INDOORS YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR LIFE AT
RISK.

Hunker down and read! This is the kind of weather for staying under the comforter with a good book. :hi:

8. Can you believe I am getting emails from my boss
suggesting that I go to work in the morning? I live right in the belt between Providence and the Cape. I want some of what she is smoking NOW! I just sent her a copy of your notice here. Perhaps it will help her to remove her head from her butt!

One shift is NOT worth my life or my future mobility, or what ever consequences getting in an accident might bring. She needs to think again.

Thanks for the update.

9. I am not used to them using such dramatic wording...

11. I Live On The South Shore Of Eastern L.I. We Get Providence RI Weather
it's been snowing all day. Fine snow that takes a while to accumulate. But it's been literally none stop and gusty.
