"On The Bumper of my SUV"
I got a mexed missage when I heard this song. See for yourself...

I've got a bright red sticker on the back of my car
Says United States Marines
And yesterday a lady in a mini-van held up a middle finger at me
Does she think she knows what I stand for
Or the things that I believe
Just by looking at a sticker for the US Marines
On The Bumper Of My SUV

See, my brother Chris, he's been in for more than 14 years now
Our dad was in the Navy during Vietnam
Did his duty then he got out
And my grandpa earned his purple heart
On the beach of Normandy
That's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines
On The Bumper Of SUV

But that doesn't mean that I want war
I'm not Republican or Democrat
But I've gone all around this crazy world
Just to try and better understand

Yes I do have questions
I get to ask them because I'm free
That's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines
On the Bumper Of My SUV

Cause I've been to Hiroshima
And I've been to the DMZ
I've walked on the sand in Baghdad
Still don't have all of the answers I need
But I guess I wanna know where she's been
Before she judges and gestures to me
Cause she don't like my sticker
For the US Marines
On the bumper of my SUV

So I hope that lady in her mini-van
Turns on her radio and hears this from me
As she picks up her kids from their private school
And drives home safely on our city streets
Or to the building where her church group meets

Yeah, that's why I've got a sticker for the US Marines
On the bumper of my SUV

1. What "song" is this and who wrote it?
I'd like the author to meet my friend in Mosul. :eyes:

2. "On The Bumper of my SUV" by Chely Wright
My step-dad is a retired Marine and my uncle is retired Special Forces...my family is pretty damn liberal, but we have a stronger military tradition than my father's ultra-conservative family...his father and uncles served but he chickened out of boot camp after two weeks :eyes:

5. I'm going to have to listen to this
(Against my better judgment, obviously). :D

My only contact with active members of the military comes through this guy I know who's a sergeant with the Army, and he and his friends don't seem like the type of people who would appreciate this song too much.

10. She sings it,
but did she really write it? I'd be surprised. I thought she was just another pretty face with an OK voice spewing out whatever garbage her record label told her to record.

4. I'd give her the finger for the SUV, not the sticker.

Doesn't seem so bad to me
I show support for the president and his war
By wearing my heart on my sleeve
Don't have to do nothin' but fill her up with gas
And make sure everybody can see
This sticker that shows I'm a wannabe
On the bumper of my SUV

I write crappy songs for the radio
It just comes naturally
Conflating my car with the US Marines
Jingo feels good to me
But don't go thinkin' I'm some kind of brainiac
The truth is really plain to see
I'm a shallow dumbfuck who's in love with big trucks
Singin' 'bout SUVs

8. Thank you, thank you
I should make a country music parody album, but it just wouldn't be as funny as the real thing.

9. It is damn near impossible to parody contemporary Country music...
because it's just so awful to begin with
