My favorite songs change pretty much weekly. Here is this week
"$1000 Wedding" by Gram Parsons-This song is everything a good country tune should be. Starts out real slow with a real soft piano part that is slightly cheesey western movie saloonish. When Gram's vocals hit it they break your heart. He does an amazing job of telling the story and you really sympathize for the guy being stood up at the altar.
"If You Can Want" by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles-If you spend anytime at music message boards there is constantly a flame war over songs sucking because they are simple. This song completely blows that argument out of the water. In less than 3 minutes and with two chords Smokey gets yo ass movin.
"It Was A Good Day (Remix" by Ice Cube- It Was A Good Day is probably the only song on Predator that does not make me want to go out and KILL WHITEY! The remix is even MORE relaxed. It uses a slower (and clean unfortunately) vocal cut and instead of the excellent Isley Bros sample it uses a great Parliament sample that makes me think of sunshine and singing birds. Also has one of the best verses ever (clean for the mods) "Felt on the big fat fannie/pulled out the jammie and killed the pootanannie"
"Heatwave" by The Jam-To me The Jam exemplifies everything that punk rock is supposed to be not the crap it turned in to. From In The City to Town Called Malice they made great fucking tunes that still sound fresh today. And they were able to do this because they took what came before them and filtered down into its core elements. Heatwave sounds like a great Stax/Volt single played by a buncha whiteboys with LOUD guitars and a shitload of attitude. Maximum R&B baby
"Where Are We Going" by Marvin Gaye-Why this song was never released in his lifetime I will never know. I am probably on my third listen in a row and I notice new things each time. Socially relevant lyrics, amazing performances all around and one of the most infectious grooves around.
So what songs are you currently listening to over and over and over and over and over and over
and if you think you know a-ha (that "take on me" group from the 80's with the cartoon penciled video), you don't! they're extremely great musicians, and morten harket's norwegian voice is lilting and dramatic. I'd recommend downloading "lifelines" and see if you like them.
GODDAMN WHAT A SONG!! I have a live version from 62 in Brazil that is just the bees fucking knees man. Probably the best vocal I've heard from. One of my ALLTIME favs
Is that the one you have or heard? I got it for Nini for xmas. Even has the commercials in Portuguese from Brazilian television, lol. The Genius in his PRIME.
Its the bing-band-snip-snap snap shiznit. Watching that DVD now actually. My only complaint is the You Don't Know Me is a little faster than I normally like. I am more used to the slowed down heroin soaked version
