Is Disney/Pixar going to re-release the Toy Story movies soon?
I have this horrible habit of paying huge $ on eBay and elsewhere to find out of print DVDs only to have the studios re-release them shortly thereafter with new features and all that.

Either that or I spend lots of time converting from VHS or finding out of print Widescreen versions on Laser Disc only to have the same thing happen.

Gah!

Anyway, I'm getting tired of Finding Nemo (which is a great film and I'm not a Disney fan) so I need a few more items for my kid to watch when he has to watch TV. I liked to Toy Story movies fine.

Anyone with inside information?

1. Forget that...
Buy a dvd burner, do a little research online, and then rent the dvds. Normally I am against bootleging, but when Disney pulls crap like this, I say screw them...

3. Yeah, maybe that's not a bad plan...
I agree with both your points. I'm not a fan of bootlegging, especially stuff I'm going to watch a lot, but this BS that Disney does with releasing movies then clearing the shelves is really lame too. It's not like they've stopped production because nobody wants the films, they just stopped in order to make more $ later...

2. Don't know, but
it's a scam. Look for commercials announcing that they're "opening the Disney vault for a limited time." Probably before the summer break. Lamest marketing trick ever.

Also check your local video store for preplayed versions.

5. He's 2.5
and I've got a full Miyazaki collection. I don't know if he's quite ready for any of them, though. Maybe My Neighbor Totoro.

He still has the habit of running up and hitting the TV screaming "GO AWAY) when ever the villian is on the screen!

Laputa's one of my all time favorites

Grave of the Fireflies is an incredibly intense and moving film!

6. Cool
He's a lucky kid. I had to wait until I was like 30 to see Kiki and Totoro. :-) I like it that he's old enough for Disney produced films and not Miyazaki or Studio Ghibli films. I think that says something about Disney.

Considered Monsters Inc.? It's really cute and it has rugrats in it he might identify with.

7. I just realized, though, that I don't think I have English versions!
of most of the Miyazaki films! I have Spirited Away and Laputa (both the good ol' Carl Macek dub and the overly done Disney version). Most of my stuff, though, is in Japanese. Hmmmm, that may mean I need to re-buy them in English. A new version of Naussica out next month! Woo hooo!!!

Remember "Warriors of the Wind"?

Anyway, we watched Monsters Inc. the other day for the first time and it received a so-so reception. He was smacking the TV every time the purple monster came on. It's really kinda cute, but I don't know a bit too violent coming from my little angel!

Anyway Miyazaki films have TONS more depth than Disney movies. I don't know if he'd quite get them yet. I might try out Totoro on him sometime. I think I have an English version somewhere.

8. Totoro

I'd think My Neighbor Totoro would be a film any 2.5 year old would love, even if they don't understand what's going on. Totoro, the Cat Bus, the little dust creatures... it's all so cute. Heck, you could probably put on the Japanese audio and he'd never notice. :-)

Yeah, Nausicaa was really wonderful (as all his films are). I never saw the butchered Warriors of the Wind version. I sit and rewatch segments of all Miyazaki's films often just to see the little nuances he adds to the animations, like Mei's facial expressions in Totoro or Bou in Spirited Away. Watching Miyazaki's films is one of the things that makes this atheist feel spiritual.
