I left waitressing in June so I could get back into the office scene. I worked for a temp agency since June, doing all office/admin. work. Now there is NO work, no one calling me for interviews, NOTHING.

So now after all that, I have to go back to waitressing again or I can just forget about everything.

You know, if you want to you could to back to watressing for a while, and pick up some college courses on the side during the day. That may help you depending on what your skills are now and what you want to do.

waitressing jobs are very demanding. they expect you to work ALL holidays and the expect you drop everything to come in and work when they need you. diners and bar/grill managers are assholes. to most of them you are easily replaceable and they usually won't give you any slack.

besides that, i HATE dealing with the public when it comes to customer service. i'm surprised i never spit in someone's food yet. customers can be such assholes man.

voting booth!!! Waitressing is very difficult. Good luck and don't forget to tell EVERYONE you know that you are looking for a better job. Even the customers you like if you can swing it. Networking is what seems to help when a serious change is needed.:hi:

Nursing......RN's are in tremendous demand. Nursing isn't just at the hospital bedside anymore. There is Correctional, Occupational and Forensic Nursing just to name a few careers off the beaten path.

Even if you do have to go back, don't stop trying. Lord knows it took me long enough...

I used to miserably wait tables-face it-some of us are cut out for that kind of job. One of my best friends is a professional waiter and loves his work, makes the highest sales and garners the most compliments consistantly in his workplace.

I found that working in the yard, anyones yard really speaks to me, spirtually.
That may not be for you, but try to find something to do that you like to do when you aren't working.

in the food and bev business, I strongly recommend learning to tend bar. It's a lot better than waiting tables, and can pay a lot better.

Do you have any special area of expertise? How about taking some paralegal courses? I'm in a paralegal program right now and jobs seem fairly easy to come by. But I'm in Kansas, not your part of the country.

My third child is finally in school and I've been looking for a secretary or receptionist job. I'm literate, friendly, can type, am familiar with computers, am good with people, am detail oriented, and have worked in an office setting before (a decade ago), AND I am apparently unemployable! Somebody recently told me that a certificate is now required even if you want to wipe butts for a living, lol. I begin to think it's true. Sigh.

When I started searching for a paralegal internship about a month ago (they're not required for my program, but highly desirable, especially for someone who's been out of the real workforce for a couple of decades as I have) it was quite discouraging. Couldn't get call backs, couldn't get favors I honestly thought were due me. And it didn't help that Christmas was just around the corner and no one wanted to hire or talk to a potential intern.

But I kept on making phone calls and all of a sudden the floodgates opened. I now have two internships and I keep on getting unsolicited phone calls from people trying to offer me jobs. I'm actually going on an interview tomorrow (Saturday) to see if this particular thing is on the up and up. Who knows? Maybe it will be good enough to abandon school once again.

I actually doubt that will happen. I'm fortunate enough to be far along with course work that I'll complete my paralegal program in December.

I've learned a lot about networking. In the past I've always had the kind of jobs where you showed up, filled out an application, and they hired you or they didn't. Never needed a resume. Luckily the junior college I'm attending has a good career center that helps people like me write a resume. Plus, the paralegal program there is a very good one and very well respected around here.

Good luck! Job hunting can be so discouraging. Just keep on pestering the temp people on a daily basis.
