I Can't Stop Shaking My Foot And Bouncing My Knee...
Edited on Sun Jan-30-05 11:15 PM by arwalden
... if I'm not bouncing my knee up and down, then I'll just nervously "wave" my foot from side to side. I wonder how many calories I burn up when I do that for 8-10 hours a day?

Is that just a "guy-thing" or do women do it too? For the longest time I was convinced that it was a teen's "racing-hormone-thing" that would eventually subside... but here I am 44 years old, and still bouncing my knee at approximately 290 BPM (yes, I've counted).

3. It's an indication that you are extremely YIN.
Sugar, coffee and high yin foods cause that reaction. Eat more grain.

10. That's an interesting site.
Do you think you have RLS? I was going to ask about your caffeine intake! If you have to have a condition, it doesn't see at all life limiting or threatening.

20. I Drink About A Pot Of Coffee A Day...
... and even though the coffee pot says it's a "12-cup" coffee maker, in REALITY it pours about 8-10 regular mugs of coffee.

22. Me too, but no RLS.
So, you giving up the coffee or content to have a name for the condition? (I'd select the latter, btw.)

7. Allen, I do that too, and yes it burns up a ton of calories
Edited on Sun Jan-30-05 11:03 PM by Skittles
I have been banned from sitting next to Warren at work in meetings, since he does the same thing and it drives everyone nuts.

I think mine is an offshoot of an attention disorder :D
I've always done it - I remember dad hollering at me when I was a little kid for "shaking the table".

9. I've done it since I was a small child
And it's never stopped.

My partner, quite lovingly, calls it my "vibrating", because she can tell that I'm doing it in my head even if my body isn't doing it.

11. they just said on the news tonight that fidgeters DO burn calories
and tend to weigh less than non-fidgeters. Scientific, but I don't have a link, because I think it was KING TV and they demand name and email info so...

I heard it a few months ago and try to remember to fidget-but it's hard. Hard work

12. Allen, my legs get so fidgetty at night, it keeps me awake
It's hell when your brain says 'sleep' and your legs scream "BOOGIE TIME!". I have been known to jog in place, in the bathroom at 3 AM.

Horse chestnuts are supposed to help but I haven't tried it. Anybody have any herbal things they have used which help?

14. I'm 25/female and have done it since I was a little kid...
my parents used to get so upset with me in church for "shaking the pew" that I would get in trouble when I got home. I still do it to this day. For some reason I find the repetitive motion somewhat soothing...I know...it's weird, but I just can't stop!

study that said thin people tend to fidget whereas fat people do not. I am definitely fat. I have always bounced my knee, so much so that my stepfather gave me the only nickname I've ever had, thumper.

I forgot to add that I am female.

16. I'm doing it right now.
I do it all the time. And I have read that people who do that do burn a bit more calories than people who don't.

Sometimes I wish I could stop.

It drives people around me nutty.

People sitting next to me get pissed, and sometimes they ask me to stop.

I don't ever notice i'm doing it half the time.

I have what I call "nervous energy." I rarely sit still even when I think I'm sitting still.
